Ahum, my mistake. Over here in Europe we're not familiar with CART (at least
I'm not...), hence the mistake. Still, I'm looking forward to the go-kart
game, could be a lot of fun.

Hey no problem man, I think Cart should get rid of that name and be able to call
themselves Indy Cars, because that is what they really are, no matter what Tony
George thinks...IRL sucks..long live CART!!!

Yeah, never mind that Tony George OWNS that significant little 2-1/2
mile oval at the corner of 16th and Georgetown, or the fact that CART
hasn't raced at Indy in over half a decade now . . .

Then again, maybe Bernie Ecclestone should start calling F1 cars "Indy
Cars," too -- they're winged, open-wheel cars that look a bit like the
cars that race in the Indianapolis 500, so I guess Bernie's boys would
have as much right to calling themselves "Indy Cars" as the CART guys
would.  Although, come to think of it, F1 IS racing at that track at
16th and Georgetown this year, and CART isn't, so I guess F1 has more
right to use the "Indy Car" than CART, not that I think about it.

With regards to your suggestion that CART should change their name, I
would recommend something definitive and defining like "Portland Cars"
or "Laguna Seca Cars."  Definitely NOT "Indy Cars," though, because I
would think you would have to RACE at Indy before you could try to
AFFILIATE yourself with Indy.

BTW, do you have any clue as to how many current, active CART drivers
have actually turned a wheel at the Brickyard (aside from 1999 Indy
winner Kenny Brack, that is)?  Get back to me on that one, and we'll see
if there's any room to rant about CART having any rights to the "Indy"
name.

Then again, this lame, tired, old argument would be much more at home on
the RASI board more than it does here in RAS, so for the sake of all the
good people here, maybe you should just take it up THERE instead.

So what's the deal with those names? Is CART an abbreviation for something?

 Championship Auto Racing (Teams??)
re: Kart I saw on Speedvision M.S and some of the others in a Kart
race playing around before the season starts.
Which is imho why overall F1 drivers seem to do better here than Cart
et all do in F1.
As far as I see over here there is not a lot of close to the ground
kart racing in an advanced level.

Ecclestone is such a ***.  Instead of welcoming the free publicity to his
sport that a film like this would bring, he throws up as many obstacles as he
can.  This is identical to the prohibitive licensing fees the FIA charges for
simulations to use the actual F1 drivers/teams/tracks, which would also
generate tons of free publicity. Their stance is baffling.

I would love this movie absolutely unconditionally if they added one thing:
John Frankenheimer as director.

I still need to see Ronin for the car chase scene... :)

Fact is if they don't race Indy how can they be an Indy Car? Actually
they are "champ" cars now.

They already have a neam,..

they've been calling them 'Champcars' for about 2 years now,...
Theres even a magazine from Racer called "Champcar".....
Championship racing, Champcars,.. simple.
Kinda like Grand Prix racing, Grand Prix cars,... It works quite well,...

And yup, a new NG devoted specifically to cart,....
rec.autos.sport.cart

Its a very good NG, with very little flame wars and lots of good racing
discussion,....

CHAMPCARS,.. remember that name, because ina few years it will be on the
lips of people all over the world,...
(there soon will be new races in Germany, Mexico and England, as well as a
rumoured race in Montreal, at Mont Tremablant, and in France)

Champ cars comes from the 60s when when USAC raced pavement and dirt for
the championship.  You had sprinters and Champioinship dirt cars and champ
cars is the name that stuck for the bigger dirt cars of that era.

Maybe hes planning to make a film himself and take all the profits for
himself.  I don't know what he's bothered about, hes got enough cash as it
is.  Hes already shafted all the F1 teams out of serious amounts of money!!

The new Stallone Cart film might just be the ticket for Sierra/Papyrus
to finally do a new Cart sim.  If the film is really good and is a ground
breaking effort like "Grand Prix" was, then interest in racing and Cart in
particular will reach new levels as movie goers would naturally want to see
a real Cart race, and then hopefully get hooked.

Maybe he doesn't want to bring himself down to the level of 'common people'...

I don't think one can say "ground breaking" and Stallone in the same
post. Hope I'm wrong though.
