Yeah, never mind that Tony George OWNS that significant little 2-1/2
mile oval at the corner of 16th and Georgetown, or the fact that CART
hasn't raced at Indy in over half a decade now . . .
Then again, maybe Bernie Ecclestone should start calling F1 cars "Indy
Cars," too -- they're winged, open-wheel cars that look a bit like the
cars that race in the Indianapolis 500, so I guess Bernie's boys would
have as much right to calling themselves "Indy Cars" as the CART guys
would. Although, come to think of it, F1 IS racing at that track at
16th and Georgetown this year, and CART isn't, so I guess F1 has more
right to use the "Indy Car" than CART, not that I think about it.
With regards to your suggestion that CART should change their name, I
would recommend something definitive and defining like "Portland Cars"
or "Laguna Seca Cars." Definitely NOT "Indy Cars," though, because I
would think you would have to RACE at Indy before you could try to
AFFILIATE yourself with Indy.
BTW, do you have any clue as to how many current, active CART drivers
have actually turned a wheel at the Brickyard (aside from 1999 Indy
winner Kenny Brack, that is)? Get back to me on that one, and we'll see
if there's any room to rant about CART having any rights to the "Indy"
name.
Then again, this lame, tired, old argument would be much more at home on
the RASI board more than it does here in RAS, so for the sake of all the
good people here, maybe you should just take it up THERE instead.
