GPL: Who actually plays a season?

I'm curious to know how many of you that play GPL play it
through as a complete season? I notice alot of people seem to
use the game to run hot laps etc. which is fine but I don't see
alot of messages (if any) about people who re-create entire
seasons. Be honest now :)

And I don't mean half distance races and such. I mean full 100%
races through a full race schedule. Am I one of the few who does
this?

<snip>

I've done a few championships, but never at Grand Prix level. in
fact, I've only ever done one Grand prix race at all (at Spa,
unsurprisingly), as I just don't have that many three-hour chunks of
time.

OK, I read your last paragraph but what the hell, I'm chipping my 2 cents in
anyway. I'm just past half way on a Novice season. Currently in first place,
woo hoo! But I'm at the Ring now, which may change that...

I find running a season has helped me concentrate on one track at a time,
and it's dropped my GPL Rank from the 100's to 22. On occasion I still go
try to trim a second off another track just for fun.

IMHO you're insane - full GP length races at each track? No way.

think there are full length leagues....

Since I got GPL about a year ago I've done 10 full-length races on 6
different circuits. I haven't hotlapped much, I'm considering trying
online races though.
IMHO 400-kilometre races are a unique experience, and require quite
a bit different approach to driving the car than hotlapping or very short
races. It isn't that difficult either - just stop worrying about how fast
you "should" be going considering your hotlap records, and drive
consistently, a couple seconds slower per lap.
I haven't tried the full championship yet - I've just begun
practising Nrburgring. Monaco is an even larger problem: I "know" the
circuit as such, but I don't know how to drive around it 100 times without
making an error, in the middle of 19 AI cars.

I've thought about it, but I just don't have the time or patience to run full
GP races at all the tracks. I ran a GP at the Nurburgring once, but I can't see
doing that track after track to complete an entire season. I am currently
running an Intermediate Long 1966 season just for the fun of it. Just completed
the British GP last night (DNF after a futile attempt to outbrake Hulme in
Stowe :)(and yes, I know the '66 British GP was held at Brands Hatch).

I did one season at GP level, in the Eagle, and apart from  a second place
at Zandvoort, and third at Monza, I did'nt finish any races. The only other
race I did well in was when I was running fourth at Silverstone. I had
fought my way up from 12th after a first lap spin, when the engine started
smoking on the final lap, and I wound up classified 9th after it gave up.
Various other causes for retirement, but mostly mechanical or loss of
concentration (boredom at Monaco <g>). These days I go for Intermediate
seasons, on the longer race setting, because GP is too much effort. Maybe,
when I've got a month off work, I'll do it again

Yep, and the CAR (Computer Aided Racing) is one of them. We race full GPs once every month in a LAN. If you understand German language, check out our website:

I've done 4 seasons at 100% length! Well I only finish about 60% of the
races, sometimes I crash, and sometimes the car break down... One season
each in Ferrari, Cooper, BRM and Honda. I hope to do all cars  some
time... Only one win so far (that was in the BRM!), but been a few other
times where I was close, like one time I had an engine failure when
leading with just 5 laps to go!

I was thinking of taking on the challenge of a full season just to see
how much i improve at this very difficult game. I bet a full grand
prix season would shave a few points off my gplrank if i could manage
to stay out of the house with the rooms with the *** walls.

I've done several full 100% races, and I've done several seasons on Int Short,
I believe - but I've never done a full 100% race season...

No, don't have the time. I've run a season of short races, but GPs are
just too long - I can't dedicate that much time to my PC.

On Tue, 01 Aug 2000 22:23:47 GMT, "Morgan V. Wooten?"

And that's why *all* sims should have a save option during the race.
These developers that leave that option out are extremely
shortsighted.

If they put in a save game feature it would not have been a problem.
Same goes for F1 2000. I can save a race in MGPR2 and GP3. Why not the
others?
