NASCAR 2002 Season still being played?

by Joe » Tue, 20 May 2003 02:20:28

I am just "discovering" racing sime. I know NASCAR 2003 is out but 2002
is a lot cheaper and money is certainly a factor here (as it is for most of
us).
Thing is, with 2003 out I am wondering weather the "Online Racing
Community" has abandoned the older game for the newer. I am also wondering
weather or not the Sierra still supports the 2002 In-Game multiplayer
interface.
If  NASCAR 2002 Season is still being played I will pick it up but, if
2002 is dying, I shall keep feeding the piggy bank until I can get 2003.

Any advice appreciated

NASCAR Racing 2002 is still being played regularly via Sierra dot com,
but the numbers are way lower than before NR2003 came out. I'd guess on
average now there are 30-40 people, tops. Everyone has transferred over
to NR2003, which has it's good points. That means the wreckers have gone
on, too. So you can find some damn good racing on the open servers.

My advice depends on what you're looking for. If you want the better
tire model and prettier graphics, then go with NR2003. If you just want
something to play now, then get NR2002 if you don't have much cash. Just
keep in mind that nearly everyone has transferred over to NR2003. So if
you're looking to race against more people, then you should lean that way.

Also, be sure to keep a eye out for good (aka cheap) deals on NR2003. :)

I am thinking I should get 2002 to start with even if most do not use it.
Many folks have told me that the best racing is in a league. Trouble is, as
a new guy I would likely be the biggest hazard on the track. It would likely
be a while before I get competitive but I should at least be good enough to
not wipe out half the field before I even venture into a "serious" race.

Thanks for the reply

Note that you can get NR2003 for $9.99 on Amazon.com (with a rebate).

Thanks for the advice guys. I decided the best thing would be to take ALL
your advice and get both sims. A decision made desireble after reading your
advice and made financially possible with Nick's $10 Amazon steer. Besides,
I read in the reviews that 2002 has "Track Guides" by Waltrip while 2003
does not. Being some of the freshest of fresh meat I need all the help I can
get.

Thanks
