F1RC: AI just too crappy to be true

by Hello Goodby » Mon, 02 Apr 2001 21:15:09

I just can't understand why people say F1RC is good. I've played it for two
days now (not just a few laps, but really played a lot) and the game is
really good. Awesome. Great. Love it. But the AI ruins it all. It's just
incredible. Sometimes they see me, sometimes they don't. I played about 25
races now, and only 2 times I wasn't kicked off or run into by the AI.
Just now I tried to finish a race. I was 6th. In the last lap I became 5th.
In the last corner I made a little little little mistake: I pushed the
brakes a fraction of a second too early. And BANG the ran into me. Crap.
Complete utter crap. I watched a lot of replays after being pushed of the
track. Usually the AI just runs into me. For instance: there were two cars
behind me. One of them overtook the other, drifting from the ideal line.
When he came to the corner he just ran his car into mine to get his car on
the ideal line. As if I wasn't there. Starts are also utter crap. The AI
just doesn't see you. Let me say it again: I didn't play the game for 5
minutes. I played it for two days. And it's just too frustrating: seeing all
your hard work ruined by some ***AI driver. It happens too often.

I can give more examples, but there is only one conclusion: if you're into
time trials: get this game. It's awesome. If you're into racing the AI:
forget it. It's just too crappy to be true. It's evenso crappy that I can't
believe the patch will help: the entire AI should be rewritten. As far as I
know they will only make the AI less aggressive. Not more intelligent. Damn,
what a bullshit this is: even before the game was in the stores the patch
was announced. Didn't they TEST the ***y game? It's going back to the
store tomorrow. And boy, am I disappointed. Specially because I can't get my
money back here: I'll have to trade it for another game they have in store.
Any suggestions...?

The AI in F12KCS is pretty good and GP3 is not too bad either.

If you have a CPU > 800 MHz buy F1 CS 2000.

The AI is pretty good but needs a few modifications. Buy it and I'll tell
you what to do.

which will include :

1. AI setup modification
2. AI Agression adjustment

After that you'll be racing tail to tail, waiting for 4-5 laps to overtake
and never fear they'll kick you out. Anything else sir ? ;)

Hi Jagg,

In case you missed my post down in "F1RC -Almost Perfect" in reply to you,
here is a copypaste:
I agree the cars feel like "hovercraft" ! Nice description !

"Tires feel like floating above the ground and the suspension's so
incredibly
rigid as if the tire is just a rigid extension of the chassis. Everybody
knows how the tires bang up and down on the curbs. Now don't tell me the
springs are way too stiff. Even a stiff spring would squeeze and elongate at
those forces. The nose as seen from the***pit does not move even 1 mm up
or down. How are supposed to feel how hard we are braking ? By the digits ?

Also the rotational velocity of the tire is awful, it is NOT in sync with
the lateral velocity of the car. That also makes the brand on it readable at
300 km/h ! . And no feedback squeels from the tires ? Oh, sure, after you
lost all the control.

"Hovercraft" ? I couldn't agree more. Thanks, Jagg  : ))))"

There are only 3 or 4 foolish aggressors on the real track unlike the 21 on
poorly coded sims. So no fools would be a better approximation to reality,
wouldn't it ?

Here Here.

If you have the CPU to take advantage, F1 CS 2000 is much more satisfying
and complete than F1RC.

AI problems aside, I believe F1 CS 2000 to be more realistic as far as the
feel of the car.

You have got to be joking, the cars in F1 CS don't respond anywhere near as
fast as a real F1 car does.

In order to know the response time YOU have to trigger it. Have you ever
done it in a real F1 car ?

No I haven't done it, but I've driven a road car with faster responses than
F1CS, an F1 car is known to respond far faster than any road car ever made.
You can see how responsive an F1 car is just from watching one on TV. F1CS
just doesn't come close.
Maybe if they corrected the values for the physics it would be a good sim,
but as it stands it just doesn't impress me at all.
