I find it strange that there was a fairly large discussion recently about
the wrongs of posting the converter hack for ICR2 to gpl, with alot of
people saying it was wrong to take away from Dave's work on the converter by
distributing the hack. And then someone releases a copy of F12000, a
complete game, and everyone seems to act as if this is perfectly acceptable
beahviour. Whats going on????

Well, in my case, I have never been burned by Dave, and have
had nothing but good experiences with what he has produced.
Same with Papyrus. Same with 99% of the game companies.

As far as EA Sports, have you ever heard of Nascar Revolution?

I bought NR, and kept it on EA Sport's -personal-, firm promise
to -me- that it would be fixed. I even became a defender and
supporter of NR for months on the EA/NR BBS. They lied, then
abruptly shut down the very active BBS, and I am stuck with
a game I can't stand and cannot return. But most importantly,
I felt duped and used by them. I didn't like that very much.

So to sum up, I won't get burned by EA Sports ever again,
and had -no- qualms about checking out their latest game.

They owe me.

If you don't want to try out F1-2000, then don't download it.

Indeed. I like the way they all try and justify it too.

When certain people want something bad enough, they will make up excuses on
why it is ok to do it, no matter how wrong it is.  Thus is the case with
everyone pirating F12000.

I can pretty much Gaurantee that 95% of these people that say they like
F12000, and then say they were only testing it, will never buy it because
after all, why should they. They already got it for free.

If they honestly wanted to just "test" it, they would wait for the Demo to
come out. That is the reason the companies put out demos, to allow you to
test.

If many of these companies had the sense that Papy did with GPL &
release the demo *before* the retail version hits the shelves, you'd
have a valid point.  It's rather pointless for them to release the demo
afterwards.  Most people don't wait that long.

Nonsense.  It's obviously just different people, some who are against
hacking Noonan's converter, and others who download "warez".  This NG does
not have a collective conscience.

That is absolute, complete and total nonsense.
I downloaded the warez version and I've already put my order in.
I'm pretty damn sure most other people have done the same.
It is one thing to download a warez version and using it when you can walk
down to the local store and buy a legal version.
It is quite another to download a beta version to check it out when no demo
version is out there!!!

In the last few weeks, most people on this NG have been saying how F1 2000
looks terrible, looks like an acrade game etc. and there was no way they
were going to buy it.
Now after people like me have reviewed it and said that it was a great game
I GUARANTEE you many more people will now buy it the day it comes out.
Now you tell me who's losing out in this scenario...

Good point, Dave, but unfortunately they are hooked up
with one of the most consumer-non-friendly, lying game
producers that ever existed.

Nah, when it comes to EA Sports, I have to say that I haven't
a lot of respect for them. They PO'd a LOT of people with their
shenanigans on the EA/NR forum. Did you ever go there when
the NR fiasco was in full swing?

I say feed 'em fishheads...  ;)

Just a point here. For me, I have removed it from my drive
at this point and have no intention of reinstalling it until some
REAL patches are -available-, from either EA Sports or the
3rd parties, such as those at GTInsider. At that time I will
check it out with my warez copy and if it is good, I will
buy it, delete the warez copy and add it to my collection
of 200-300 purchased games. I will not copy it for anyone.

Other than that, I guess I don't know what to say..  ;)

ISI and EA are losing out because thousands of people have downloaded the
warez version and WON'T  buy the full game. If you use the warez sites, you
help to keep them going and are supporting the theft of software. You and
others at r.a.s. can't seperate yourself completely from the others, even
though I do believe most here would buy the game if they liked it.

Kind of like the suburban husband who occasionally does a line of coke but
doesn't consider himself part of the drug problem.

I think the worst of all is the people who download the ISO version.  Cause what
it is a pure one to one CD image, for them to burn their own copy.  That's
taking it too far in my opinion.  I'm enjoying the game so far, with horiable
hills and bumps included.  It's on my list to purchace, and hipefuly in 1-2
weeks when it's released It'll also be in my hands.  Me and hopefuly others also
think "Download it to try it, don't like it?  Delete it.  Like it? Show your
gratitude and buy it."

It's strange, I am very against warez, but at the same time I am absolutely
sure that people here at r.a.s. do buy the games they like. If there's one
place where the downloading of warez serves the same purpose as a demo, then
I really believe it's here.

I've been reading your posts here for a few years so any arguments I put
forth in opposition to warez are really directed towards others. I just
happened to have responded to your post in this thread. :-)
