1.. Generally it hasn't been well received (here or in reviews)
2.. It's one of those games which needs a state of the art PC to run.
(yet, they fail to communicate this on the specifications panel - I hate
that)
Your best bet bet might be to buy an older game like
Grand Prix 2 or Monaco GP 2 at a budget price - these will at least
run smoothly on more average hardware - and smooth running is
vital for a good F1 sim, perhaps more so than other types of driving.
Also, GP 3 is being promised (end July? Christmas? not sure.)

Well IMO, F1 2000 is getting a bum rap. I ran it on a P3 500 fine if I
But, you are corect it is a bit of a pig and hopefully they will
improve that in the next version. Apart from that, and a couple of
niggles, it is a top rate simulation.

Yet, here we are in P3 500 territory turning down details.
Sound pretty poor to me.
The publishers always lie about minimum specs. You should know that by
now.

It's this kind of simplistic GPL-centric BS that really honks me off.
Yes, GPL is great, but this is NOT a valid answer for the question
being asked.
Granted, the question itself is lacking, but have the decency to ask
for more info before popping off with the standard "GPL" response.

Yowza, those P3 500 are really "low-end" PC's these days <vbg>
What about the TRACKS? Hehe I feel pity... Just watch in-car shots at Monaco
last week and compare them to the Gp3 video vs. F1 2000. Geoff did his work
correctly.

Why isn't it ? Look at the subject header.
"Whay is the best F1 sim".
Well sorry but GPL is the only answer at the moment. Now if the person
specified his choice with the era he wants, or how realistic he accords to
somethings (physics, graphics, AI, multiplayer, track accuracy, etc..), then
a different answer could had happen. But to this simple question? GPL is a
valid answer.

CGW gave it 4.5 out of 5 stars. F1 Racing magazine from
Britan gave a comparision of all F1 computer games. PC
and console games. F1 2000 was tops. Period.

Yep.

Yep.

This might be OK if the person has a P5 or 486 (for GP2) or a really
slow P2 or P3. If the person has a P3-500+ and 128MB of ram with
some sort of 3dfx card, then F1 2000 is it. Sorry ;-)
