Windows, I guess GPL (Grand Prix Legends -- Sierra/Papyrus) or
MGPRS (Monaco Grand Prix Racing Simulation -- Ubisoft) would be
the front runners... GPL being a 1967 sim (no wings, no slicks),
MGPRS being a current day version.
I'll not spoil the broth by saying which one I prefer, but I sure
wish it had wings and slicks <g>.
GPL takes a lot of hardware horsepower (P-II and 3dfx or
Rendition video card highly recommended).
Rgds,
Mark R.
It has most of the features of GP2, (cannot save hotlap) and a few
more features, (ghostlaps, weather, multiplayer via lan/internet, etc)
and better (3Dfx) graphics. There are also various editors to tweak
the game to your liking.
BTW, I'm a big F1RS & GP2 fan, and although I actually recommend F1RS
as the best *overall* modern F1 sim, I think GP2 has a *slightly*
better driving model. So if *pure driving* is your thing, get GP2, if
you want the best looker and the extra features, get F1RS.
If you want the *best* F1 sim (ever) or any other sim come to that?
then there is no question, GPL is the one to get, awesome, simply
awesome.
8-)

After all, get both

I really don't understand why you run it in VGA on such a system. You
could easily run it in SVGA on 25 fps with only a few details turned off
like sky.
On my P120 I run it in SVGA with all but fences off and objects low at
21 fps (Monaco: + objects off at 18).

I'm quite sad rs2 isn't discussed as thoroughly as it deserves here, but
I guess that most of us are busy racing around the Nuerburgring and will
continue to be so for years to come. ;-)

PS: Now if only we'd see a Linux port of those sims.... happiness!

The thing about RS2 that catches you at first are the bright colours. These
can seem arcade like at first, but run GP2 right after and you soon see how
dark IT is. The racing seems quite good - I'm in an off line Touring Car
League right now so I haven't had much time to get into it - but the options
seem to excellent. Career/Scenario/Time Attack. It should last for a long
while.
