nVidia beta Det4 12.90 drivers get rid of flashing GPL menu screens with GF3

I just updated to the latest leaked beta drivers from nVidia (12.90
from www.m3dzone.com) and it appears that the flashing GPL menu
screens (after exiting the car) have gone away.  I'm using the beta
DirectX 8.1 with Win98SE and a Visiontek GF3.

then there is something wrong with your win 98 system, If you have an Nvidia
card, try different driver, MBTR is very driver sensitive, some Beta drivers
give you nothing but large coloured fields.
MyMBTR has been working fine since about the 6.50 drivers.

I know what you mean - my GF3 would lock up in my Dell (and I tried
everything I read) all the time.  I finally gave up and installed it in a
second PC (ASUS motherboard) amd it's been fine since (exact same drivers
and configuration.

Thom, i've tried them and it looks like the 12.90 drivers do fix the
flashing menu problem, but I found them a little slower than 6.50.  I guess
it depends on how irritating you find the flashing menus :)

FYI
Monza, race-start, 19 opponents, in-car view, back of grid, all graphic
options on, detail slider bar on full, 1280*1024, no fsaa, p3-650

sat in pits / before the flag drops / lowest
score recorded during race start
6.50 drivers   =       27.0                 28.7
~22
12.90 drivers =       28.3                 26.5
~20

For some reason the 12.90 are faster when I'm sat in the pit lane, but
slower during the race start.  Tis bizarre :)

Hmmmmm? Simon? This presents me with a decision now! I cant handle
this pressure!! Yikes!!..lol Serious Question tho'.. When you load 12.90
and you dont like it, how do you get back to 6.50? Tia.. Thom_j.

I found applying the beta MTBR patch helped the game to be less
sensetive to driver versions. Had tried many drivers and got
problems, then applied the patch with the same drivers and it worked.

Cheers,
Rod.

I didn't think you could use fsaa thru vroc. I have tried it on my GF2 GTS
and it spits me back to vroc every time. Turn fsaa off and i can connect to
a race no problem.

hi all,

thanks for the feedback.  will re-install, re-apply the patch & see.
i know it works with the 6.5 drivers, but i kinda like the newer ones.

why, i don't know.  the bigger version numbers make my feel like tim
allen.  more *power*, grunt, grunt...

Tell windows to update the driver. When it asks to search you just do a HAVE
DISK and point to the old drivers. Done.
