F1 2001 yes it is garbage

As a programmer I do not think it's my customers problem to sort out my
programming to get things to work.

This is what EA expect.

I have tried all the beta drivers for the Geforce 3 as well as all the
authenticated drivers. None provide a constantly stable platform to run this
poorly programmed game.

Having brought games for some 15 years one knows when one has purchased
crap.

It's been a long time since I purchased an EA game, I should have realised!

So back it goes.

Back to N4 and GPL

Yes in many ways F12001 is ***but it has allot of potential, think of is
as more of a leaked aplha version of F12002 ;-)

ISI/EA did the exact same thing with F12000 it was rushed out and full of
bugs, they realised F1CS2000 about 6 months later and it had all of the bugs
ironed out.

You must be a pretty low level programmer then......

Ah! another programmer that can't configure a computer.

Where did you bring them?

Those were about the dumbest responses I have seen in awhile

So a game is garbage because you can't get decent framerates, which some,
including myself, have gotten.  I'm confused.

Don't remember mentioning framerates ... READ the f**king post before u

game

And what is the above quote supposed to refer to?  I'm guessing "stable
platform" has to do with the game, which in turn can refers to "framerates",
among other things.

If you mean something else, then that's even LESS of a reason for saying a
game is bad.  It's no one's fault (I know, you a computer expert and have
been one for decades) you can't get the game running.  I had no problem.

But then-- hmm-- I'm no GPLS (Grand Prix Legend Snob).  Save your comments--
worthless, as I see them-- for your own clique.

I run the game on a GF2 using 12.90 drivers in windowed mode and it
runs great for me. And I'm not even a programmer.

FYI - 'stable platform' can mean several things but low framerate would be
the least problem. With all G3 drivers for this product  'stable platform'
means severe screen corruption. The only official drivers that work but
poorly with F1 2001 is the very old 12.90 which are oh so slow. The up to
date official drivers are unusable with the game.

In the past EA have used the public at their expense to beta test their
products and then instead of a patch have released a later version that
needs to be purchased again!

Your snobbery answer is just ridiculous as I would love to own a modern F1
sim, but this is not it. All Papyrus games are quite polished before they
are released and if a patch is required, they respond.

I admit it was my mistake to again purchase an EA product.

If you prefer to own sub-standard products..well that speaks for itself!

Sorry to hear of your experiences, Alan but with my old, outdated 3dfx
5500  the game is a joy. Much better than the last two offerings. My
racing machine continues to use the 3dfx board as I just have a
cartload of issues with the 3000 permutations of drivers that get
offered for the nvidia family. I use a gf2 on the other machine and
have had to switch drivers a number of times for various flight/fight
games. No way will I go to a new/latest/greatest graphics card from
anyone. The drivers always seem to lag way behind the hardware.
Staying a generation behind seems to help both the wallet and the
headaches.

Thanks Jeff and Dave for replies that arn't contemptible.
I have a second computer, relegated to being a dedicated server for hosting
GPL reaces and some serious work. This is a P3/800-V5500 combo. I thought I
would give it a try. Not only does F1-2001 run well but gives you the option
of running at greater frequency rates so preventing 'tired eyes' syndrome.
It obvious that the sim has been optimised for this (I still consder great)
graphics adapter.

I still believe that EA should make sure that such a recent sim should run
with the latest official drivers for the most popular graphics adapters.

The 12.90 drivers worked moderately well but I'm loath to wasting my time
constantly changing between drivers with all that's involved i.e. time to
uninstall the current drivers/reboot/reinstall suitable drivers for the sim.
This is really not acceptable for G3 owners especially as the difference in
benchmark between the latest driver and the 12.90 is almost 2000 points. In
my case a drop from 7081 to 5360

incidently F1 2001 is running on the '3DFx' computer very smoothly at
1280x1024x16 (100hz) no FSAA

I think it's the first time in 15 years that I have had to revert to an
'old' computer to run a game :)

Wouldn't that depend on when the driver came out relative to the development
cycle of the program?  I actually *wouldn't* expect developers to be able to
keep up, since the drivers change so often...

I didn't think he was being snobbish.  I think the point he was trying to make
was just because it doesn't work on a few computers doesn't mean it's total
crap.  We've passed the point where programs work on all flavors of all
systems.
Every game is going to have a subset of people who can't run it.  Witness the
recent issues with N4 over the copy-protection scheme.
I hope you get your problems sorted out, though.  I haven't played the game
yet, but it sounds like fun.
