N2002 or F1 2002 - which to buy?

by Rob » Sun, 16 Jun 2002 01:37:09

Okay, first let me preface this by saying that I only have the money to buy
1 of these sims right now. I currently own F1 2000 and NASCAR 4 and I'm
interested in upgrading one of them. I prefer watching F1 races and right
now I'm kind of leaning towards getting F1 2002, but I would like to know
the following from some of you that have both:

From an overall standpoint, which is the better sim and which is the most
fun to drive?  Which would be a bigger improvement over the current version
I already own?

Thanks in advance!

Rob,

I can not speak to the F1 game and I know you wanted people who had both.  But
I have N4 and N2k2 and I was very skepical about there being any improvement in
the game.  I thought most of it was just flash.  But because of my league I was
kind of forced to get N2K2 and BOY am I glad I DID!  It is a great improvement
over N4.  The car seems more stable and easier to control.  Not as touchy as
before.  And some of the Flash (and I won't deny a lot is flash) are really
nice.  Like having the prefered line on the track as you run.  But the handling
is a HUGE imporvement and because of that I would say get the N2K2 and get off
of N4 as soon as you can.

Good luck with your decision,
Bif1988

N2002 or F1 2002 - which to buy?

F1 2002 compared the F1 2000 in terms of improvement is simply amazing. F1
2000 felt heavy and strange w/ horrible FF. Even GP2/GP3 was better than it
IMO, but F12001/2002 has very complex physics, nice graphics, many nice mods
(FIA GT V3, LeMans track, LMP cars, etc.) However, online racing still sucks
ass and N2002 I heard is easily the best with MP.

Thanks,
Alex

One thing to consider is do you want to play online, or offline. Your
online experience will be far superior with NR2002. But because of the
messed up AI in it, the F1 sim will probably win out for offline play
(from the reviews I've read so far anyway).

EA's AI is worse than Papy at 10 times.
Try to stop your car on racing line, they stack exactly at you back
stupidly. Brain dead.

ehh, N2002's AI is not the best of course though.

Perhaps games should list that they have A. Im yet to see any AI that has
any intelligence, perhaps it should be AI? - Any Intellegence? I dont like
F1, and love papyrus games, but would say that perhaps f1 2002 would be
better because of the mods that are likley to come out, especially the GT
mod which is woth buying f1 2002 alone. AI wise, they all have their
strengths and weaknesses, but id say that the papyrus AI is slightly better

I have Nr2002 and F12001, not 02. However, as stated previously if you
want to play online, then NR2002 is the only way to go. Unless F12002
has vastly changes the MP abilities from 01, there is no hope.

Something you might want to consider is getting F1-2001 instead of F1-2002.
Why? A couple of reasons. 1. PRICE. It is available for around $20 in most
stores.  2. MODS. You can download about 4 or 5 mods that effectively give
you 5 or 6 games for $20. Additionally the LeMans track was just released
for F1-2001 and it is drop dead gorgeous!

If you wait 4-6 months F1-2002 will most likely drop to around $20 as well.
By then most of the bugs will have been patched and the F1-2001 mods will
probably have been converted for F1-2002 use. Once again it would be like
getting several games for the price of one.

Just some food for thought.

I just saw F1 2001 for $29.99, and F1 2002 was $39.99.  I was wondering why
ANYONE would buy the older game, until I read your post...  I forgot about the
mods(never loaded them).

Elderd,

Eldred,

I'll sell you my copy of F1-2001 for a price you can't refuse. I don't have
F1-2002 or I would probably sell you that as well. I think I've been using
GPL for too long and online racing is about all I do.
