I suspect if you are a true GPL Devoteee, the modern aspects of F1 won't
appeal to you. The cars are so rigid and non moving, it may seem odd.
However, the closest sim I have driven that brings the feel of GPL could be
the V3 FIA mod that was done for F1 2001. THe mod makers are within about a
month or so of releasing a new version of the mod for F1 2002. This should
be worth the $20 alone. Plus there are about anothe half dozen road courses
that have been ported over to F1 2002 format and I suspect the GTR 2001 mod
will have several new tracks as well.
