This about does it for me... "1 non licensed car, 1 non licensed track,
$150". Why would anyone buy into this concept?
Really??? Hmmm... Interest.... Dying....

F1-2002 (with FIA GT Mod 4 on the horizon)
NR2002
GPL
Rally Trophy
TOCA Race Driver (August)
Colin McRae Rally 3 (September)
There are more. These are just my (current and possibly future) preferences.
As much as I have been e***d about WSC/RL - I have to say I'm not too
confident about RL's success. If the *** sim'ers all pitch in the $150 and
things don't work out for the West's what then? Apparently they've been working
on this title for a year and have no licensing yet. What makes us think that
this will change when we put our money in their pockets? Don't get me wrong,
I'd pay US$200+ for a finished product that lives up to the hype. At this point
though I'm not ready to throw in US$150 to beta test 1 car and 1 track with no
assurances that I'll ever see anything else...

The Wests obviously believe in the old saying ' There's a sucker born every
minute'

You can have a full grid of the same car, for one. Then there's also the
matter of the tools for creating tracks and cars shipping with the game,
which, no doubt (if it all materialises) will lead to home made versions
appearing on the net. Obviously those would differ in quality, but that's no
different from the current situation with GPL, Heat or EA's F1 series.
So, hypothetically, there would be a choice between buying the official,
licenced (read: authenticated) product or the free "gestimate".
Once again, why are people who say "Great idea, best of luck with that." or
"what can I do to help?" suckers?

Fantastic simulations all.
One of my favorite games, but I'm not convinced that it actually does
physical modelling of the parts of the car. I'm guessing it's a
"simulation of a simulation" as most racers are.
I expect nothing from these games. Nothing. Codemasters has yet to
make even a good arcade racer. I would literally shit my pants if
they produced a professional quality racing simulation on par with
Papyrus or the latest incarnation of the ISI engine.
The only racing simulations I'm aware of that are being released in
the next 1-2 years are Nascar Racing 2003 and F1 2003. Lots of good
games that I'm sure I'll buy and enjoy (Rallisport Challenge near the
top of the list), but only 2 companies have produced games that
attempt to do real physical modelling of a car at this point.
I'm starting to leave the topic here, but it amazes me that Papyrus
seems to get so little respect from their publisher. The last 2
iterations of their NASCAR series have outsold everything in Sierra's
catalog other than Half-Life, and yet they've been rewarded with
budget cuts and strict limitations on the types of games they can
produce. All of this, and they're the first development team to do
serious physical modelling of race car dynamics on a personal
computer. I bet that if they were working for EA we would've had GPL2
a long time ago, not to mention other games developed using their
engine.
