WRL - Hillclimb Legends!!!

http://www.racesimcentral.net/;Hillclimb
Legends", I see. Now if *that* appears, and is any good, I won't really
have any choice in the matter...

Everyone and their dog seems to be discussing WRL right now, but as I
don't have a dog I'll do it myself...

My benchmark is GPL. I bought it for 29.99 from Woolworths the day it
came out in 1998, and it's the best game purchase I ever made. Of
course there have been a *lot* of PC upgrades to cope with it...

So, first thing to consider is cost. Personally, for a pack consisting
of the core bits and pieces plus the hillclimb addon I'd be prepared to
pay 100 or so, *if* I had confidence that this thing was going to be
around a *long* time - as long as GPL, I mean.

However, it would have to be a high quality hillclimb addon, and I'd
expect to see:

* A good proportion of the famous tracks; Shelsley Walsh is 100% vital,
and Prescott would also be very important. At least three other tracks,
drawn from around the UK - perhaps Gurston Down, Barbon and one of the
closed-road Channel Islands events.

* Pilbeams are extremely important - not having them would be as bad as
GPL without Ferrari. Goulds would also be nice. One nice thing about
hillclimbs is the variety of cars, so almost anything from a car addon
pack, whether Mini or Maserati, should be able to slot into the
hillclimbs with ease.

* Drivers - a few that spring to mind are Roy Lane, Roger Moran, Graeme
Wight Jr, Alistair Douglas-Osborn, and even pre-war greats like Raymond
Mays.

* The obvious sales outlet would be Prescott, where the Bugatti Owners
Club are highly adept at screwing money out of people!

Of course, I'm resigned to the fact that my PC is going to have to be
majorly upgraded (yet again) to play WRL properly - but the cars on the
website look as though they'd need about a P7! Something has to give...

Okay, bad things. I can't believe that "damage and dirt" are going to
be an addon - damage, at least, should be integral to the core product.
And of course I won't really believe until I've played the demo - sure,
lots of people played the WSC one, but that's a different game now.

Who would spend good money to damage their car and reducing grip? It should
be the other way round: An opportunity to buy more durable parts, and better
tires.

Damage and Dirt and those sorts of things will be added for free - as will
most of the addons

it's a case of - you wanna drive today - or drive tomorrow with damage?

Good to hear. =)

I hope they manage to get the CD's pressed for the core sim by this
fall or so.  Really really looking forward to trying this out.

Have you managed to coerce them into mentioning some features that
will ship with the core set?  I'm guessing they'll announce bits of
that after Goodwood.

Excellent :-) And I suppose there'll be any number of third=party
addons too (so the original ones will have to be high quality!)
