Before I start - Eldred, on the server you should select the #299 car
(it's in the carset).  Someone else is using #86. :)

Well, that was an interesting race - the following points of
interest:

1) I think everyone but Eldred showed up.  That's pretty impressive.

2) 13 cautions for 49 laps (more than 1/3 of the race). It took us
until about lap 60 to find a rythm, but after we did, I think only
three of the cautions occurred after that point.

3) I led the most laps, and was in the lead on the last caution (I
snookered Brian and Ginger by only getting two tires on the pitstop),
but the motor went out just as we crossed the s/f line to form up for
the re-start (with only 14 laps to go).

4) There were 18 penalties handed out by the sim.  ZZ Busch and Pete
Reston appeared to be the recipients of the bulk of these penalties.

5) Brian Oster won the race.

6) There were 15 lead changes among nine different drivers.

Most of the accidents appeared to be solos with subsequent incidents
happening as a result of the solo spin.  Other than my motor crappng
out while I was in the lead, it was a fairly good race for me.

One more thing - Ginger Fletcher (#7 car) had only installed the game
mere minutes before the race, and still managed to finish 2nd.  Maybe
the setup wasn't reaslly as terrible as everyone was saying - he sure
made the whiners look fairly stupid.  :)

Real bad day here. Started in the back and taking it easy when something
happened to Ed coming out of 2 and I had to brake hard and lost it into the
inside wall killing the motor on lap 2 or 3. Sorry to Neal C for you getting
caught up in this.

I had a bad one.  Either the 3rd or 4th place guy spun himself in front of
the pack on an early restart and I had to touch the brakes right in the
middle of t1 and that spun me right around.  I sat right in the middle of
the track for what seemed an eternity (but not long nuff) waiting for
everyone to pass.  No sooner do I move forward I get slammed (I use the
paddles to look left but my wheel was turned and I couldn't find it to look
while I was downshifting).  It took me forever to get to the pits and before
I could even start repairs I hear "1 to go".  Im thinkin jeez, the one time
I do need time we get a short yellow :)  As we restart guys are on the apron
and all over the place and my car has serious problems and I couldnt hang
on, anyway end of my day ;-O  Sorry to whomever I got that last restart.

That would be me.

Sorry to anyone that got caught up in my controller problem taking the first
caution flag. I was crossing the start/finish line to take the yellow and my
wheel suddenly pulled hard left and I had no gas or brakes. I thought my
wheel and pedals had died since they are over 3 years old now, but after
some investigation I found the culprit was that the AC adapter had come
unplugged from the pedal base. Doh!

Yeah, a good turn out, i hope one day we can fill the server :-)

That was a fun race, i had some fantastic laps racing with TimW & DaveGF for
3rd place between laps 70-110(ish), i was lucky the yellow flag came out
just after most had pitted under green, that put me 3rd and the final car on
the lead lap. I got a speeding in pit penalty which put me in 3rd but at the
end of the longest line for the restart....hehe

Congrats Brian, great racing.

I was supprised when your engine started smoking while following the pace
car, very bad luck John.

Great race, great sim, cya next week chaps !!
Cheers Ginger

Well my race went ok. I had a warp incident with DGF that caused me to
go down a few laps.  My warp not his, my problem not his. I think it
was DGF anyway.  After that a few lazy spins over cooking coming out
of turns or into turns.
The yellows got me bored and PO'd, so I ignored a BF and got DQ'd.
It took me right off the track and to the setup screen, LOL

I found the setup easier to drive then the Fast setup on my pc. I
tried another few laps after I got BF'd and i spun a lot with my fast
setup. I wonder if they react differently online.?

I should have stuck it out, but I didn't. I got a black flag for passing
before the start/finish line on a restart. Total rookie mistake! Then I was
caught speeding on pit lane when serving my black flag! Needless to say
after a couple spins I was down 2 or 3 laps and kinda figured I'd get my ass
off the server. I had something to do this afternoon and I am out of work at
the moment and that "something" paid me some $$. Like I said, I wish I'd
stayed. I will practice a lot for Vegas next week. See you guys there.

Had a really great time racing with you (as usual) and Tim. Seemed like I
spent the whole race with you guys. Sometimes I was holding my breath and
sometimes I was laughing. :-) Tim and I unfortunately pitted right before a
yellow came out and went two laps down (we were wrong about it being only
one). We got one back, but ran out of time.

Congrats to Brian.

Yeah, good size field.

The usual, IMO. People not giving themselves and eachother time to settle
into the race. "I have to run 24s flat the second lap around" -sheesh. On
the fast setup, when driving in "race-mode" the tyres only come in for me
about lap 12-15. That first part we never had 15 laps of straight running.

Then there's the usual "there's a yellow so I'll pit"-persuasion that
persists. Jumbling up the field and making restarts even more dangerous than
they should be (cautions breed cautions). I pitted once, not because the car
needed it, but I wanted to get back to the tail end of the field (not even a
second across the field in practise, but still people think they are doomed
to lose if they can't pass that slightly slower competitor). No avail, 10
laps and two cautions later I was back up to 3rd again. Surely not everyone
could have been involved in those incidents?

Ok, restart yet again. Craig Johnson is too close for my liking (reports of
me warping while most of the time competitors look OK to me got me
worried... cfr. last season), so I move up the track and hold back through 3
and 4. Craig duly goes for the pass. I drift down a little lower than
intended for 4, but before I can correct I'm nearly T-boned by Craig. Turns
out he got onto the apron at which point the car just turned right and shot
up the track. So now I'm stopped in the middle of track with a smashed in
hood and terminally damaged engine. I don't know if everyone got through ok,
but at least they managed to avoid me. Only thing left for me to do was limp
the #17 Tektronix Ford back to my crew and start packing the trailer. No
reproach towards Craig, shit like that happens.

Grats and commisserations

There's one for me entering a closed pit with the terminal damage... I
didn't feel like limping around another lap, so there.

Nice one Brian.

Yeah, pretty close bunch in terms of outright speed.

I continue to be amazed by the number of people just losing control by
themselves. I consider myself nothing special in a virtual racecar and even
I find it relatively easy to stay on top of things (famous last words <g>)
as long as I pace myself correctly(*). Certainly a lot easier in NR2k3 than
in GPL.

Too bad John.

Jan.
