New Viper Racing demo at The Pits

MGI has been nice enough to grant us exclusive rights to post the new Viper
Racing Demo, fixes from the old one are:
-The "plummeting hornball" bug, which crashes replay
-The 2MB card lock-up, where your machine locks up on the way into the
race if you have a 2MB card.
-The COLORKEY bug, where old 3Dfx drivers fail fatally, will simply be
          worked around.
-Failing to run on Cyrix machines, because of some code that was
accidentally left in. Right now, users have to use the -nocanary flag to run on
          their Cyrix's.
-The installer, which sometimes would not permit the game to be uninstalled.
-Skid sounds are way too loud, especially if you turn sound up to "Incredible".
          Now they are consistently quieter.
-The road texture has been changed to partially remedy the poor sense of
          speed in the 2.0 demo.

You can get it from the news page at The Pits (http://www.racesimcentral.net/).

Cheers!

Wait a second!  I just checked the readme file with my viper demo and it
says nothing about fastest time, yet when i start the game it does say V2.0
is there a newer v2.0???

There's 2.2

Yeah but is that in sim mode or arcade mode? It makes a huge difference on
which of the 2 the time was done in. I'm still stuck at 1:03 in sim mode.
I'm damn good at looping the car though. :)

Just downloaded it and tried it out... oooh baby it's much better
now:) the engine sounds really does sound like some kind of meaty
race tuned beast like i'd have expected from a Viper, and with
the new road textures with more realistically sized lane markers
and surface texture, the sense of belting along at 200kph is much
better now. good stuff MGI! :)

unfortunately, the readme.txt breaks the news that the new fastest
laptime is a 58.73s! argh:)

I recommend this download to anyone with an interest in good
simulations.

Cheerio,
Grant.

It's definitely in Sim mode. My best is a 59.00 a week back. it was a
rather clean lap that i haven't been able to beat until today when
i did another 59.00 with a completely differently handling setup.
i'm really looking forward to the full game...

Ok, so it is in SIM mode, but is it in time only, or race mode against the
other cars. Cause those guys keep getting in my way.

Also, anyone with these HOT laps, can you give info on your setups?

Ok guy's here's the answer to some questions that have come up since the
release of V2.2. The 58.73 was done while hot lapping, and it was also done
in sim. mode. I think it was "Thewind" that said it makes a big difference
between sim. and arcade and that is true. Some people have posted that they
are having trouble breaking the One Minute Mark. To those I give this
advise, look to see if your Traction Control and Yaw Control are turned off.
Also it is very important to keep the car balanced and to keep the motor in
it's power range!!! It is very exciting to see how many people are enjoying
Viper Racing and I'm very sure that it won't be to long before the 58.73
record falls. I think that there is a 58.65 out there or even a high 58.50,
but I guess that only time will tell!!!

Keep on racing

slight tweaking of the suspension seems to help. Just as i seemed to have
maxed my setup at 1:00.72 i made the rear springs 4 notches stiffer and
*poof* a 1:00.32 my second lap.  I'm closing on that 1 minute barrier, just
a little more suspension changes and i should join the ranks of the 59
second elite.

Those laps were in ghost-lap mode, no idiot AI cars to get in the
way:)
When I go to race mode, I don't focus on laptimes, but trying to
drive fast and consistant while avoiding the other cars. if you
add "-safe" as a command line parameter to the Viper shortcut, you
can select longer races, but it's not all that much of a challenge
when i can pass all the AI cars within 1 lap.

ok, here's a couple of my setups. the first one is pretty much identical
to the first 59.00s lap i did, it's more of an understeering stable
setup, while the second is a much more oversteery setup, also a 59.00s
setup. Included with the Viper demo v2.2 is a setup for that 58.73s
hotlap.

              setup #1     setup #2
Bump          42    35     36    40
Rebound       78    63     71    79
Springs       70    77     69    76
Antiroll      75    70     75    68
Toe in       -0.2   0.3    0.0   0.4
Camber       -1.6  -0.6   -1.6  -0.6
Ride height   5.2   5.9    5.2   5.9
Brake bias    70    30     67    33
Wheel lock    17           17
Spoilers      100   90     100   85
Final drive   3.90         3.90
Gears         1.92         1.90
              1.44         1.38
              1.14         1.12
              0.94         0.94
              0.80         0.80
              0.70         0.70

hopefully this helps in some way.
Grant.

Would you mind tell what kind of controler you use? Joystick or wheel?
Also, are you using manual or automatic shifting?

I swear I'm on the ragged edge of traction the whole time and just
cant break 1:03. I'm gonna try that '-safe' setting for more laps
once.

Troy, you didn't say whether to have those options on, or off. You just said
to check them. So, . . . are they to be on or off? And if on, are they HIGH
or LOW?

Sorry I should have been a little more clear. Turn traction control off and
yaw control off.
The controller that I use is a simple 2 axis 2 button Flightstick
