GPL joystick problems

When I map my joystick's buttons to the brake or the gaz, they act like
the gaz and braking helps are on even thought they are not.  Is there a
patch or something to correct that? I hate to throttle with the Y axis
of my joystick.  Thanks.

You're right, the throttle- and braking help are on, when you map them to a
button. And no, there is no patch for that. Without the helps you would get
full throttle/brake everytime you press the button - the car would be
absolutely uncontrollable. You need analog throttle and brake for GPL. If
you can't do it with your joystick, get a wheel!
