How to fix joystick jittering in GPL ?

by Tom Johansso » Sat, 25 Apr 1998 04:00:00

Hi

Does anybody know why my T2 steering-wheel jitters in GPL
and in Windows in general ? It only occurs when i steer to the
right. The left side is much better. It makes it difficult to have
a precise control over the steering.

Try some switch cleaner in your pot.

Time to open up your T2 (6 screws)and spray the pot with electrical contact
cleaning spray.

WD40 works ok here for me in the UK

I have the same wheel, without the same problem.

Just Windows, works fine in DOS?  Then it's probably a configuration
issue.  Try recalibrating very precisely.  Try Thrustmaster's Pro
Panel.  Try both optimized and DirectX settings in GPL.  If you get
similar jitters in DOS games under plain DOS, then it's probably
either your game port (try with a joystick and see if you have
similar problems; if so, that's probably it) or the wheel itself.
If the latter, Thrustmaster has good customer support.

While WD40 may lubricate, I really doubt that it is doing a proper job
of cleaning the contacts.  Plus the nature of its lubrication should
attract dust and other contaminents to the contacts of the pot.

But if it works for you.....

A question of desperation I suppose - WD40 was all I had and I needed my
fix (of sim racing - not WD40)
