I've been suffering with lap1 glitches in F1RS for a week since I've got
it. now at last I've managed to make them go away altogether. Apoligies
if someone else has already come up with how to sort it.
Looking at the problem I guess it will only be experinced by people with
less than about 64-70MB of RAM. (I only have 48MB on my P200MMX). Anyhow
this is what I did, and I hope it works for you. Try this at your own
risk (and don't do this if you PC also acts as a fileserve - god
forbid).
1. Clean up your Hard disk, and do the full install (I have 3dfx)
2. defragment it fully
3 backup and the edit (the risk is yours) your system.ini file and in
the [vcache] section add:
minfilecache=4096
maxfilecache=4096
This will stop win95 grabbing all of your precious ram to cache your
hard disk. It appears that the page "giveback" mechanism is not fast
enough to cope when trying to run F1RS. Win 95 will use just a 4MB
cache.
4. create a 128MB permanent swap file (min and max=128) and reboot.
Before doing this I could not get round the first corner in Germany
without crashing becuase of the jitters. Now it is flawless, even at
full detail with replay recording switched on. The glitches during
speech seems to be fixed also
Hope this helps someone.
Regards,
Peter.
