GPL Demo: mouse freezes => can't complete joystick calibrate screen

Well, I've installed the demo, v0.0.0.5 I think it says on the screen.
It brings up the first picture, then goes to the screen with the menu
options down the side. An hourglass cursor is shown and the configure
screen appears after a moment. After another moment the joystick
config screen appears. I can happily move my joystick around and have
it update its various axis min/max values, but I cannot move the
mouse.

I cannot hit ENTER to select OK; I can't use TAB.

All I can do is fiddle with Alt-Tab and Ctrl-Esc to eventually get
back to the Win95 screen, then hit Ctrl-Alt-Del to first kill off
"Papyrus Window", and then after that, to kill off program "GPL"
(which I have to do twice before it really goes). Until I kill "GPL"
for the *2nd* time, I cannot move my mouse in Win95 either.

Any ideas?

Video card and driver version:
 Matrox Millenium, v3.70.007
Orchid Righteous 3Dfx, v2.43 Glide drivers installed
 DirectDraw etc, v4.03.00.3700

Sound card: SB AWE32
Game controller: CH Gamecard III
Joystick: CH Flightstick Pro until I get it working,
then ECCI CDS.

Ahhh, fixed it! I went into the mouse setup in Win95 and removed the
animated cursors, restoring it to the Windows standard. Sorted.

Wow, that GP car mode is something else, isn't it!

Has something to do with the calibration of the joystick/wheel.  Try
this...Ensure the js is calibrated in Win95 - start GPL and calibrate,
but instead of leaving the menu screen after clicking OK, check the
box that indicates "optimized."  You'll be presented with the cal-menu
again, but once you finish, you should be able to go on about your
business...Hope this helps.

Cheers!

Marc

Yeah, since I installed the new Monza track GPL also locks up on me?
(it was ok before this?) My work around is to press ctrl + alt + delete
to get the "close program" win95 box up, but then press "cancel" and
you will go back into GPL and all will be well again, it is a pain, but
the fix only takes about 5 seconds, so I'm not too worried at the
moment?

Unfortunately not, as I couldn't complete the automatic calibration
screen ie. the calibration screen that was invoked the first time, and
every time I started GPL! It simply would not let me select OK by any
means. The Optimised driver was selected by default luckily enough I
guess, and this appears to work just fine.

I think it was removing the animated cursors that fixed it, but
interestingly enough I actually have no joystick configured under
Win95 at the moment anyway. It's nice to see having a controller
configured isn't necessary here. Hopefully I'll be able to configure
my CHFlightstickPro for Conflict Freespace, and just swap in the cable
for my CDS when I play GPL.

I wish other games (thinks Castrol Honda Superbikes; thinks TOCA)
would do something similar - whilst my joystick is calibrated
correctly in the control panel, both of these games drive 'off centre'
ie. straight down the middle of the road involves steering the wheel
slightly to the left. Damned annoying. In fact, in TOCA, I have to
turn my pedal unit upside down, as otherwise the brake pedal
accelerates the car, and the accelerator pedal slows the car down!

How come Nascar/3Dfx, GPL, and, if I recall correctly, F1rs, can get
it right, but these less sim-worthy efforts cannot?
