GPL: Mouse freeze when launching from SpyBoy

by Terry Tabo » Thu, 21 Oct 1999 04:00:00

Hey Folks,

I've got a problem that I hope somebody can help me with. Whenever I
join a GPL race from SpyBoy2, when it gets to the selection screens, my
mouse pointer freezes - usually in the upper left hand corner.
Everything else seems to be active. I can't move the mouse, however, so
I can't select the green box to move to a race. I therefore have to
cancel out.

The problem does not exist offline or if I start a race from VROC.

My hardware is this:

        PII 233 MHz Micron - 64 MB
        Microsoft PS/2 Mouse
        Logitech Wingman Formula Force Wheel
        3Com/US Robotics USB 56K voice/fax/modem
Diamond Monster Fusion (Voodoo Banshee based) AGP

I've just recently installed Windows 98. I'm running GPL 1.1.0.3 and GSB
1.99.0.10. I have the latest drivers for the Logitech. I'm using the
latest reference drivers for the Voodoo Banshee (not the latest drivers
from Logitech). And I have Glide2x.dll 2.60.00.0350 in my GPL directory.

The reason I'm using the reference drivers is I get better frame rates
(solid 36) with them, and furthermore, when I joined games from SpyBoy
with the current Logitech drivers installed, I would get machine
freezes. I wouldn't get these freezes very often from VROC (but on
occasion I did), and furthermore, since going with the reference drivers
I haven't experienced any freezes from VROC or SpyBoy2.

I have completely reinstalled my video drivers and GPL.

Lastly, I read of this problem in the "Readers FAQ" on Allison Hine's
site (http://www.racesimcentral.net/), but the links
listed explaining the problem and the fix thereof, were dead links.

I'd appreciate any help anyone can provide.
