GPL problem with Gravis PC Pro Joystick

Hello. I have a problem with GPL and my Gravis PC Pro Jostick.

I have a Gravis PC Pro Joystick (black, 4 (grey) buttons, a trigger and a
rotary throttle control) and I can't get it to work properly with GPL
(version 1.1):

Here is my configuration:
    Intel VS440FX Motherboard
    128 Mbytes RAM
    Matrox Millenium
Miro HiScore3D (this board is the same as a Canopus Pure 3D; I use the
Canopus drivers...)
    2.1 Gbytes HD
    Sound Blaster 32 AWE PnP
Gravis PC Pro Joystick (connected to the game port on the Sound Blaster
card)

Microsoft Windows 95 (with Service Pack 1)
    Microsoft DirectX 5

(the joystick is properly set up and calibrated in the Windows 95
control panel)

.. and here is my problem:

I calibrate and configure the joystick on GPL, without any problems but...
    - If I try to use button 3 to accelerate and button 4 to brake: the car
accelerates OK, but the brakes dont work...
    - If I try to use button 4 to accelerate and button 3 to brake, the same
thing happens: the car accelerates OK, but the brakes dont work...

The same setting works OK in Need for Speed III and Grand Prix 2.

P.S.
   - I had the same proble with GPL 1.0 and emailed Sierra Tech Support and
they had no solution to my problem, but suggested that I could try mapping
the braking to the backwards motion of the stick and the acceleration to the
throttle; However I don't like that setup and I would really like to use the
joystick buttons to accelerate and brake. When the 1.1 GPL patch was
released I reinstalled the game and the 1.1 patch but the problem is the
same...

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance.
