IndyCar and GRAVIS Joystick

I am having a major problem with my new Advanced Gravis joystick
It doesn't work with Indycar, F1gp, Xwing or Tie Fighter!!!

Yet a friends works perfectly with those games!!!

Mine works ok with wolf3d and Doom but nothing else!!!

Here are the symptoms....

Indycar...... Doesn't acknowledge the joystick at all!!!

F1gp......... In joystick calibration it says
              Move joystick to ....
and then it doesn't say anything, it seems to
hang there with the (ESC aborts) message!!!

Tie.......... The first calibrate message
'Centre Joystick' goes off the screen really
quick and then the second just sits there...
the one thats says 'Move joystick to upper left'

same thing with Xwing!!!!

Does anybody have any clues at all!!!

Cheers

OK, it's one of two possibilities:

1: You've got a faster machine (486 something...) and a slow game
card/port.  Get yourself a speed compensating card or try another port
already in your system (****caution...see below!****).  The Gravis
Eliminator card is good up to 80 (???) Mhz.

2: you've got more than 1 game port in you system and more than one is
active at the same time. Make sure you only have one port active at once.
Some can be disabled via jumpers, others via setup utilities for the card.

Mike.
