Have you tried F1 2001? I was a big fan of F1RC (except for the AI), but F1
2001 when run with the "right" drivers (grrr) is definitely a cut above.
Definitely worth a look, i'll be interested in your view,
All the best,

Further you don't see the time left in each session. If you leave the
qualify session, and return, you've another 12 laps to qualify. It's
not possible to enter a chatline while in car. I also don't understand
why the chatwindow is so small, maybe 20% of the available space.
If the host or game starts the race, you don't have the ability to
select/modify your setup/strategy.
On the track, sometimes the other cars looks very weird, only front
wing with front wheels for example. Another problem is, the other cars
become invisible when they're about 300 meters away. Very annoying.
The other cars don't seem to have contact with the road. Nope,
multiplay for now is too frustrating to be fun.
Offline it's not too bad. Physics are ok, graphics are good, sound in
car is great. Outside the sound is mediocre. I can't comment on the AI
yet. Controller setup is mediocre. I feel there is major lag, it seems
to beCPU load related. What I really like is the feel of power the car
has. Without any aids you can't drive away full throttle very easily,
you've to be cautious.
Braking the same, once your speed drop, you've to be aware the car's
behaviour changes once the downforce effect is less. No more full laps
with locked frontwheels, as in F1RC. Riding the curb is possible, but
it can upset the car. Yup, driving the car, apart from the controller
lag, is fun.
The setup management is awfull. Yes, you can assign a favorite setup
for each track, but you still have to load it. No folder for each
track, all setups are saved in 1 folder. That will be fun if you've an
average of 5 setups for each chassis, for each track... (that's 880
setups...)
If you change a setting, and you save it, you've to type the setupname
again, even if you want to overwrite it. Is a Save and Save as option
to hard for EA? When you do a testsession, everytime you're in the
pits it seems to revert to the default setup. In car you see the
overal tyre temp, but when in the garage, there is no way to see the
tyre temps. No inner/center/outer temps, so it's not easy to setup the
camber. I also miss the toe settings. And, no telemetry...
Conclusion: The base is good, but some parts aren't implemented well.
For me the controller lag and setup management are a bit of a pleasure
killer. The first might be my system, so probable that's solvable. The
latter however, I fear that will not be addressed in a patch.

Hi Dave,
Nope, I use a soundblaster live gameport with an hyperstim. Thanks for
the information, though!

I have instant response using my MSFF in the gameport, absolutely no probs.

Well it does mean we guinea pigs will have sorted out the solutions to
making this sim fly by the time you get it!
Have your list of tweaks ready for when you do get it. These include
For those with geforce cards - a number of drivers to try (12.41 work for
me - loads of different tales)
Edit the config.ini file to try windowed mode
Update the car textures if you want tobacco adverts etc. (coming out
already)
Edit the default.cfg file to alter***pit view to give more perspective (a
bit like the option in GP3)
Edit default.cfg to alter T-cam view to include helmet
Edit default.cfg to add on-board cameras for AI
Edit player.plr to add shadows for T-Cam view
Edit f1car.gen to change lod values so cars don't disappear from view (no
hit on fps)
Some even find running FRAPS improves frame rate.
...and probably some more...
Phew - this is after how many days since release?
Having done all this settle down and enjoy
Cheers
Tony
