Which lod values should one change in the f1car.gen file?
Which lod values should one change in the f1car.gen file?
Where did you learn how to do all these tweaks? I'd like to try some, but
I'm a bit confused. Can you point me in the right direction?
Thanks,
Todd
This really is a shame to hear. I'm amazed every time a new sim comes
out, that they can't get the setup operation right! I hate to say it,
but will they ever get it better (or even learn) from GPL?

Lots of experimentation going on by various people atm, but I changed every
occurence of MeshFile=<1234>vd.MTS to have a LODOut=(500.0)
e.g.
MeshFile=<1234>vd.MTS CollTarget=False HATTarget=False LODIn=(10.0)
LODOut=(500.0)
Sure enough the cars no longer appear/disappear when they are so far down
the road and no obvious impact on fps

Simple natural genius Todd, oh alright them I ripped them all off High Gear

On EA's F1 Series section, lots going on there.

It really looks like they took their time for some tracks and had to
rush to get the last tracks ready before release.. the difference
between the quality of the tracks is really big unfortunately.

In another thread in this newsgroup which you started, you mentioned a
GPL utility to change FOV. I went to the link you gave, read the
messages and looked at the screenshots. Among the comments I have seen
is how much different the tracks look when you change the FOV. In GPL
the FOV is probably too wide, so narrowing it a little makes sense. I
think ISI's games have the opposite problem. I don't have F1 2001 yet,
but I have F1CS2K and I always thought the FOV in F1CS2K was too narrow.
Lately I have been playing with a wider FOV and I really think it
improves the appearance. However I don't really know if the tracks look
more accurate or not, since I have never been to any of them. I just
wonder if the criticism ISI always seems to get about track accuracy is
really just due to the FOV. For example, I think I read a review
somewhere where it was said that ISI had overemphasized the height of
Eau Rouge. A wider FOV would decrease the vertical size of hills and
bumps, thus it should fix problems like that. Try a slightly wider FOV
with F1 2001 and see if the tracks look any better. I would like to
know what you think.

I never had to do that in F1 2000 CS. Maybe I'm just a better
driver :-)

Don't just look at the screenshots, install GPLFOV and try it, you
have to experience it to see how great it is :)
Correct, all the tracks have so much more depth now.. on Monza for
example you don't notice too much difference, but hilly tracks like
the Ring, Zandvoort and Bremgarten have so much depth now..
Also you have a much better feeling in the corners, I can just corners
and distances better, I really think it makes me a much more
consistent driver..
Yep, default view is 78 degrees, I reduced it to 50 degrees which is
much better.
Well, some tracks are made really nice and some suck. I'm no track
expert, but even I can see that Suzuka and Monza are close to real
life while Hungaroring seems more like a fantasytrack.
I don't really care that much about this though, I think it's much
more important that the sim itself is good, and if the tracks are a
tad different than their real-life, who cares :)
I just warned David about the non-accuracy of some tracks because a
couple of weeks ago he wrote he wouldn't be interested in any sim if
the tracks were not accurate. As a good friend, it was my duty to warn
him.
For now I uninstalled f1 2001 because I can't get my controller
working correctly. I'll try adjusting the fov once I installed it
again and have it working, thanks for the tip, I didn't even know it
was possible in f1 2001 :)
It's a simple adjustment in one of the ini files I asume? The
config.ini file?
PS I don't think the inaccuracy of the tracks is due to a wrong fov,
since some tracks like Suzuka are quite good with the default fov..
and Eau Rouge too steep in f1 2001? The one who told you that should
visit Spa in real life sometimes :) The closest to real life version I
saw was a beta version of a Spa 1980 layout for GPL. S-t-e-e-p :)

I had the control lag problem, and it was solved with DXTweak. It showed
that my directx dead-zone was at 5%, I changed it to 0%, and F1 2001 was
like a different game. I recommend you try it out...
