My my.... Just watched the movie GRAND PRIX.  That monza banking was
mental!!!  I had no idea it was so steep, and so just all around crazy!  BTW
very good movie.

My query....  If someone can create a BrandsHatch track, or a Dubai, I'm
surprised no one has undertaken the duty of making a converted Monza...  It
would be the absolute coolest!

I hope this starts a thread about the movie Grand Prix

you are not the first one who requests this 'new' track! ;-)

ok, here it comes: this movie kicks ass, racing-wise ... but very poor
story off the track ... and why didn't they show the race at the glen? I
would love to hear them squeeking tires in the loop ;-)

Yea i was surprised they didnt show it the first time i saw the movie seeing as
how its an American made film and all.  I heard some rumor once about there
being some kind of reason behind that...they could only fit so many races in or
something...probably no truth to the rumor but then again maybe there is.

says...

This has been suggested many times, unfortunately no-one has the track
editor to do it, except maybe the mysterious "Dave Noonan".

Also it may not even be possible due to the effective figure of eight
configuration.

Well they only could fit in a couple of races... Perhaps it would have
been better if they skipped the 'story' part and only showed all the
races, but then it wouldn't be a movie anymore...
I think the choice of tracks was superb. The races at Spa, Zandvoort,
Silverstone and Monza were fantastic to watch.

By the way, I noticed to late that the movie was on tv a couple of
weeks ago, so I missed the first part of the movie. I have the movie
on tape from the part where they race on Spa.
Can anyone tell me which races are in the movie besides Spa,
Zandvoort, Silverstone and Monza?

Don't you mean Brands Hatch rather than Silverstone? I too have never
managed to catch the start of the film, but I know that the British track
used later on in the film is Brands Hatch (I live 3 miles from Brands, so I
know what I'm talking about on this occasion!
Unless Silv. was used at the very start, I think you're mistaken.... :)

There has been some discussion about this before. I thought it was
Silverstone, but I never was sure about this. So it was Brands after
all...

I haven't duplicated that (I think there is a virtual wall there, so you can't
even if you can clear the fence), but i've duplicated Scott Stoddard's (his
teammate) excursion into the inside wall many times :)

I hear also that cars running over the bridge of the banking would collide with
cars below as the sim is not true 3d....don't know if thats true or not.

monaco, brands rather than silverstone, and that french track who's
name i can never remember, but it ain't rouen!

zandvoort, oh yes.  one of the best little scenes in the movie for me
is an overhead shot (from a blimp?)  of someone running off the track
(but not too far) somewhere at zandy, then edging the car slowly back
onto the track, and then giving it too much and spinning back off!  it
all happens in about 3 seconds, but i've lived that moment so many
times.  so many it hurts.

i wonder if there are cans of unused footage in some vault
somewhere....  we deserve to be told!

I own a copy of the movie, and usually watch it a few time each year. I'm
at the point where I fast forward through the movie just to get to the race
segments.

No, Monza didn't have or use the banking in 1937, only a natural banking.

Clermont-Ferrand....but they didn't actually show any racing there,  just
some build up of the plot.

There is no excuse for leaving out the Ring.
