GPL - 1961 Ferrari Model Query/ Monza Banking

Hi, Ive got a 1961 F1 Ferrari 156 model sat on
top of my monitor, I got it as part of the Shell
"Collezione Classico" promotion, so there are
probably lots more of these out there. I just wondered
if any classic racing fans can tell me something about it,
like what size was it, was it a V12, how did it fare
in 1961? (Car # is 38). The car has a pleasing "shark
nose", faired in engine, and low level exhaust.

Ive tried dozens of driving games over the years, and GPL
is by far the most realistic. I worked for a race team this season,
and at night two of the mechanics went home to set up their
GPL cars after doing it for real all day! (I use Allison Hine's
Red Candy setups, but then I was only the truck driver!)

After visiting Monza this year for a FF Euro round, and after standing on
the hallowed banking (as well as lapping the modern circuit on our
paddock bike), I can only hope that someone one day does a
patch to restore the banking and remove the barriers on and
off the pit straight.

See Ya,
Dave Woods

Like the name suggests it was a 1.5litre V6.
AFAIK Ferrari used a 65 and a 120 version in 1961.

could it be this one (but with a different number)?
the page contains a bit more info about its
history, not much technical info though:

Try the official Ferrari archives at

As Matthias says it's a 1.5L 120deg V6.

In 1961, Phil Hill was world champion driving the Ferrari, his teammate,
Wolfgang von Trips was second. And Ferrari won the constructors title.
The cars changed numbers throughout the season, but #38 was driven by
Hill at the opening race at Monaco (from the excellent forix web site -
http://www.forix.com).   Sadly, von Trips died at Monza that year.  This
was the last F1 race to use the banking.

Martin, thanks, it is the same model, with a different number,
the history of the 156 with Phil Hill was great, wish I
cuold afford the large model, mines only 1/35 scale. Nice
to see that they raced on the banking at Monza as well..
