know, you race to much GPL when in your real life

You for got to mention two other points:

12) You try to imagine a lap of the "Ring" while; trying to fall asleep,
sitting on the loo, having sex, and just about any other activity that
leaves your mind free.

11) You marvel at the smooth frame rate while on a busy freeway.

Sierra / Papy might get some more sales if they put a demo CD with each N3,
NL, Add-on trucks, N4(?), and even the re-releases of CART, Viper, NR1999
...

The demo CD insert autoplay could start an MPEG replay of a lap in traffic
around the Ring, from all the different views.  The demo might be more
accessible to a greater audience if it was set to the Advanced Trainer (F2)
with brake and gas help on and AI cars (tweaked to be slower).

With the sales they get from the NASCAR series, if a small percentage of the
those buyers also bought GPL, this would probably double sales.  With
today's base PCs having 450 MHz CPUs, it should run adequately - the biggest
deterrent would still be the lack of D3D support.

My turn...I bought GPL for Christmas last year and still have a blast with it
for these reasons:

1) The open architecture allowing new car paint jobs, track scenery, AI adjustment
2) The outstanding replay feature
3) The people on this list and their web sites providing add-ons...especially...
4) AI TWEAKER!!!

So, thanks go to PAPY for developing GPL and our GPL community!

I couldn't agree more.  I was a Flight Sim nuthead before GPL. Now I
haven't touched anything other than GPL since November last year.

No worries Cheng. No offence taken. You are quite right though. There are a
fair few idiots floating around.

Hi there,

There was an 1:12 `67 Lotus 49 avaiable from Tamiya in the early 70's ( and
again about 1990 ). Also an 68 Lotus 49B.
But they are collectors Items now, saw an 49 at ebay not long ago, but I'm
german, so i couldn't order it...
I own an Matra MS from 68 ( Jackie Stewart ), an '70 Ferrari 312B ( Clay
Regazzoni ) and an 67 Honda RA 273 ( hmm, who drove that car, can't remember
;-), all in 1:12 from Tamiya. Right now an '71 Tyrell ( IMHO one of the best
looking F1s of all Time ) should be avaiable as an re-production ( im hoping
to get it at christmas ).

Maybe we should tell Tamiya about GPL and how many GPL'ers would buy an 1:12
Lotus 49, so they make an new series out of the old tools...
Just look at ebay, some of these cars are on bids.

certainly i own that car too ( and the Honda )

Greetings,

Michael Staab

Michael,

Nice thought, but it wouldn't help. GPL only sold about a 40,000 copies,
so if we all purchased a 2nd copy,it still wouldn't bring the total to
100,000. And the break even point is way more than that.

I am also a flight sim nuts. Get a banking wrong induces a stall horn warning
and then stall/spin in Warbirds while you hear tire complianing and then spin
if you do a corner wrong in GPL. Big fun and chanellenging. Hehe. Oh, I think
I will miss the fun of blowing the guy sky high if he keeps getting in your
front using guns/cannons/missles. (Oh, the episode of Dilbert TV comes to mind
again which Dilbert mounts a ballastic missle at his car's rear and solves
the traffic conjestion problem.)

I am not comparing flight-sims with racing sims. It is OT but I cannot
help but feel that why it is so difficult to make a flight-sim right
nowadays.

Still a GPL student,
Griffin.

I hadn't been interested in cars since I was a kid. My computer cost more
than my car. However, I saw the advert for GPL and memories of my big
brother taking me to opening night of "Grand Prix" (the movie) motivated me
to buy GPL. I haven't looked back.

WOW! What a joy! I've bought at least 4 more racing sims, looking for more
of what I got from GPL, no such luck. It's simply the most amazing auto sim
out there, and it is responsible for my renewed intrest in real F1 racing.
Thank you GPL community...Papy, Larry, Randy, Allison...too many to
name...and all those add-ons from unpaid and immensely talented
enthusiasts...it's amazing!

All I can say is that when the next GLP-engined (is that a word?) comes out,
I'll be there, clutching my $$$. Hope it's a GT Legends from the same
period, but even if it's NASCAR, hell, I might just find myself going in
circles for hours. A current F1 sim would be cool, too. Who needs a license?
The commnity will have us racing the real teams in no time. A personal thank
you to all involved.
