Just had to chime in and add my voice to the rising crescendo here. IMHO,
there has never been a single piece of software written that so completely
succeeds at meeting the loftiest of goals as GPL. It is no mere game - no
game could give the incredible sense of satisfaction of nailing a difficult
corner (let alone a full lap!) the way that GPL does.
Just this afternoon, I knocked another 2 tenths off my pb at the Glen (down
to 1:06.7 in the Ferrari, no Wolfie, but not too shabby), and even if the
rest of the day had been cr*p, that achievement would have made this a Good
Day.
Thanks to everyone at Papyrus for pouring their souls into this work of art.
Thanks to the incredible community that has continued to support and improve
the sim for the past year. Thanks in particular to Alison, whose Coventry
setups made the game seem at least remotely learnable, when I was throwing
the default Lotuses and Brabhams off the road far too often, and whose
Ferrari setups remain my favorite way to experience the depths of the
simulation we have been blessed with. Extra special thanks to Randy
Cassidy, for performance far above the call of duty in getting the FF code
into 1.1 and bringing the sim one more step closer to perfection (and
lightening my wallet by $180 for a LWFF, money very well spent).
With the way the entertainment software industry is going these days, we may
never see another sim like GPL, and that would be a shame (fingers crossed
for GP3, of course). I figure that GPL has at least a few more years left
in it, in any case - I've still only really come to grips with three of the
tracks (Glen, Spa, Monza), and I'm still only hotlapping. That $40
investment is going to keep paying off for a LONG time to come.
