N4 Stutters Online

Offline, N4 works fine - smooth as silk.

Online, the screen pauses every 2 or 3
seconds.  Really annoying!

Any suggestions?  I've tried the obvious
stuff.  Has anyone actually seen this before?

actually MOST people get better framerate Online than off.  I would think
you have a network connection that windows is checking for a live
connection, so every several seconds it looks for your net card.  This was
kinda common back in the N2 days, but I haven't seen it too much lately.
Good luck tracking that sucker down...
ps  you aren't using ME by anychance?

I had the EXACT same problem.  2 things I've done:1 - added more memory.  2 -
changed the FSAA from 'best performance' to 2xFSAA.  It isn't perfect, but it's
much better.  I have a Voodoo 5, what card do you have?

Voodoo 3, but I never had a problem with it before now.
After a fresh install, it really sucks. I already have
196 MB RAM.

One interesting thing is, the stuttering seems to be
track dependent.  Rockingham is undriveable, but other
tracks are OK.  Also, it's worst during qualifying!
That makes no sense whatsoever.

It has to be something network or modem related.

That's what I thought, too.  But Changing the FSAA settings helped.  Not sure
why.  Are there any similar settings for the V3?  How's the framerate when you
run with AI offline?
