Help with new system and N4.

by forc » Tue, 26 Jun 2001 08:27:14

Hi all, been sim racing for years.  Got out of it for a while and now
I'm back with a brand new system trying to get N4 w/patch running.

Dell 1.7 Ghz
256 ram
GF2 Ultra (v.4.12 nVidia drivers)
Thrustmaster NASCAR Pro wheel (older, non digital version without
adaptor)

I can calibrate my wheel in control panel but N4 will not let me
choose the steering axis for steering...says "can't choose a single
axis for steering".  Brake/Throttle are fine.  I've tried both drivers
in N4.  Does N4 not support analog NASCAR Pro wheels?  I have tried
the switch on the pedal box every which way to no avial.

Also, how do you turn off vsynch and "FSAA" in the OpenGL tab for the
GF2?  I can't find an "OpenGL tab" anywhere or anything else
mentioning vsynch or FSAA.

I've been getting about 25 FPS in OpenGL with everything maxed out in
1600 x 1200 x 32 mode. (Tally start of race w/20 cars).  However, in
1024 x 768 x 32 I get about 75 FPS (everything else the same as
above)...if this normal?

first make sure you patch gpl to v1.2
next get the D3D patch it generally runs better than
opengl.(make sure you read and follow the directions in the readme.)
3rd there are two options to choose from for your wheel inputs in GPL, make
sure you choose the Direct X option rather than the Papyrus optimized
drivers.

Good God ignore my last post.
I'm soooo used to replying to GPL messages I just went down that track.
Sorry.
With N4, you choose either the D3d or OpenGL in the setup, or using the
'configure 3d' option at the main menu.
Next, you 'may' need to load a wheel configuration so that N4 see's the
separate axis.  Make sure your thrustmapper software or whatever your wheel
uses is configured properly and setup for split axis before you launch N4.
Once again..sorry about scrambling up the sims.

Um...  He was asking about N4, not GPL...

Thank you for the help thus far. However, I still figure out where to
find the "vsynch" and "FSAA" settings to turn them off. Any ideas?

Those settings are in your video card functions...I don't have a nividia
so I can't tell you the exact place but look under the properties for your
video card in Device Manager...that ought to be the place.
