New machine - N4 won't see MS FF wheel - Help!

by David J. P. Lon » Wed, 16 May 2001 13:42:13

Ok, I'm at my wit's end.

Scanning the group via Google hasn't worked either :-)

I've just gotten a new Athlon 900, 256MB RAM with ATI All-in-Wonder
Radeon running WinME.

Installed some software like Office, etc..  Wanted to try Nascar 4 -
bought it, installed the MS FF wheel that had been sitting, waiting
for this machine to be built...

Fired up N4 and the first thing it did was dutifully download an
update patch.  So far so good - thought everything was going well..

For some reason, when I try to configure the options for N4, it
REFUSES to see my wheel.  I've got the control panel running, the
computer sees the wheel just fine (testing in the control panel in
WinME works fine) but N4 seems to think that I only want to run the
game using the keyboard!

What blindingly obvious solution am I missing here?

HELP!

Thanks in advance.

Options page, Controls.  Choose the DirectX driver (forgot their term,
it's the bottom of the 2).  Click on Calibrate Controller.  At the
bottom of the page is an arrow pointing to the right.  Click it to go to
the 2nd page.  Now you can calibrate your wheel.  Once you're finished,
go back & assign your steering, brake & shifting as normal.

Have fun!

Fester has it I think.  In most of the latest Papyrus sims you've had the
choice of a Direct X input checkbox or a Payrus version.  Most folks choose
Papyrus thinking it will be more compatible, but really it's only for those
systems that Direct X isn't working right or the input device isn't
dxcompatible.  So make sure you've got
DirectX checked as the method of input.  Then calibrate
in the game and assign your inputs(gas brake etc)
good luck

New machine - N4 won't see MS FF wheel - Help!

I had a problem when I had my MSFF USB wheel and Saitek X36 USB both plugged
in at the same time.  N4 would recoginize the X36 but not the wheel.  I
simply fixed this by unplugging the X36 USB and now it sees the wheel fine.

So in case you have more than one controller plugged in, try it with just
the MSFF wheel and nothing else.

Good luck.

It was a combination of that and unplugging/re-plugging the USB cable
a few times.

Now, if I could only get Indy and Pocono to load up, things would be
perfect!
