If GPL physics run at 288hz is it a mere coincidence that the max fps is
(288 / 8) =36fps?
If there were some way to change that multiple to say 5, our max fps would
be roughly 58 fps.  Something for all you math majors to chew on.

Why would you want 58fps?
Do you work with Intel or something?

I'm VERY happy GPL doesn't go higher than 36fps, otherwise you would see
people here recommending me to get rid of my P2-233 that is able to handle
36fps, but not much higher.

my P2-233 that is able to handle 36fps, but not much higher.

To get 36 fps with a 233 you must have all the details off and no ai cars.
You aren't enjoying the real GPL.

Actually, John, it is possible.  I have a PII 233 with an 8 meg voodoo 2, 96
megs of ram, and an SB Live, set at 640 by 480.  I run races and seasons
against 14 AI.  I shut off all the special effects (smoke, skid marks,
specular lighting) but have the entire left hand column of graphic detail on
except clouds.  My detail slider is set about 1/4 from the left side.
Starts can be rough, but after the first or second turn (except at Monaco) I
get 34 to 36 fps.

Don't get me wrong, I'd give a nut for a PIII 600 and a voodoo III 3000, but
if find GPL completely acceptable and enjoyable.

Regards,

Kurt

Nonsense. I do not know how you suppose you can SAY this? I mean, I HAVE a
P2-233, and I SEE (with all textures ON, except from mirrors) that I have
36fps, and now YOU go tell me that I can;t enjoy GPL? Who are you kidding?

hehe even with my 13-15fps in the demo. I am having a blast. I got down to
high 1:06 at the Glen now, I hope I will be able to get even lower when my
voodoo 3 comes

btw how do u save a replay?

Also, don't confuse a Pentium 233 with a Pentium2 233! The P2 233 is approx
85% faster than the plain old P233 according to the benchmarks in Norton
system
works. The P233 has a rating of 60 and the P2 233 is rated at 110!!

Read the manual, or, go to the pre-race screen where you have all the
replay buttons under the tv picture. The replay buttons do the
following....

Buttons from left to right:

I<<  = go back to *start* of replay.
<<   = rewind (press more than once to speed up rewind)
I<   = rewind one frame at a time.
II>  = Toggles between play/pause.

The *other* buttons do the following....

Button that looks like a roll of film = press once to *start* saving a
reply, press a second time to *stop* saving a replay. It's like an
*edit* or *record* button?

Button that looks like a minature file folder = saves the *whole*
replay of the last few laps without any editing.

Button that looks like two overlapped boxes = toggles between the
window TV picture of the replay and a full screen replay.

Last button on right = toggles between the different camera views which
are available.

So to save a fast lap (or laps) as a replay.....

1) Once you have completed the lap, (or laps) press escape to go back to
the pre-race screen.
2) Rewind the replay to where you want to *start*, eg:- usually just
before you start the fast lap?
3) Pause the replay.
4) Press the record/edit button (press once)to start saving the replay.
5) Allow the replay to run until your fast lap has finished (or fast
forward to where you want to stop recording).
6) Press the record/edit button (press once) to stop recording the
replay.
7) A box will appear, you should type in a filename for the replay.

Thats it, you should now have a recording of your fast lap, which you
can view anytime by going back to the first options screen, and
selecting view replay, then select the appropriate file to view.

Yeah, you propably have detail BIAS in full left(lowest), that makes a huge
difference to framerate, but if you have that full right(highest detail
BIAS), then there's no chance you'd get 36fps, even my Celeron 433Mhz can't
do that....in 640x480 mode...

So ppl who have framerate problems, I suggest that the first thing to do is
to put detail BIAS bar to full left and then try again.

But hey, in singleplayermode, with more than 4-5 cars in vision, you never
get those 36fps, neither did I with my old P2 266...
But it doesn't matter if you race online, because you can see only 4 cars
ahead and 1 behind. And furthermore, online it's not _your_ PC doing all the
calculation for other cars.
