I was just wondering if somebody can tell me what kinda'
frame rates I can expect with GPL with the following configuration:
K6 - 166 Mhz
48 MB RAM
and a good (yet to be bought) 3Dfx-board!

Roger

I have an Intel 166Mhz MMX with Righteous 3D and 32MB Ram...
Very smooth (there are a few people who claim otherwise but most agree that
this spec (especially with a 3DFX board) is fine.

I had a similar configuration (Pentium 166MMX, but only 32mb,
Righteous 3d) and framerate was fine with all detail on in 800x600. No
idea of exact fps, but it was much smoother than TOCA or GP2. Your
only concern should be whether the K6 and Pentium provide similar
performance, but seeing as P166s are so cheap (cheaper than a 3dfx
board anyway) it wouldn't cost too much to upgrade further.

Roger,
I use the same system with a Monster 3D(Voodoo 1 chipset) and Matrox
Mystique. I get very smooth framerates with GPL in the demo. I don't have an
exact number, but from experience I would say 25+ fps. I am not sure what
the final product will produce with this system, but will test it as soon as
I get my hands on it. With your system, I would not recommend the Voodoo IIs
unless you are planning on upgrading to a PII system in the near future. It
will not give you enough performance boost to warrant the price. I have just
installed one in a PII 400mhz system and it really flys. Well.....everything
flys on that.....:-).......I don't do any sim reviews on the 400 because it
really is not a baseline system as of yet, and would not be realistic for
the average simmer at this time. Enjoy......stop by and check out some of
our software reviews.
