Riva TNT & GPL, Pitiful FPS... HELP PLEASE!!!

by Jay » Wed, 13 Jan 1999 04:00:00

Hi, I just bought a STB Velocity 4400 Riva TNT AGP, 16meg video card at
CompUSA ($149), installed the latest STB drivers (ver 152 from STB's site)
and went to run GPL, but the menu screen is black, and I can't see the
green/red buttons to move from menu to menu!

I then tried the Nvida drivers which I d/l'ed from www.rivazone.com (ver
.048) which let me see the menu's in GPL, but when I went to drive/train my
FPS were less than 1!!!! They were something like 0.17 !!!!

I tried this in 800x600 mode, so I turned off a few graphics options and
dropped the view to 640x480 but they only improved to 0.28 !!!

I do have the latest OpenGL Beta2 patch from www.papy.com installed and have
edited the core.ini file to reduce the mirrors, etc...

I am also running DX6, on a PII 266 with 64meg of RAM and a Micronics 440LX
motherboard with AMI Bios ver 1.20 and I increased the AGP appature to
256....

This is very frustrating, as my old Viper v330 (Riva 128 4 meg first
generation PCI) card ran with 26 FPS in training mode and 18 FPS during a
race!!

Any help would be very much appreciated...

Oh, btw, F1RS crashes too, when I try to run it! It complains saying I don't
have hardware installed, but I'm running DX6 and DO have hardware
acceleration selected, bummer!

ToCA and other D3D games run fine however! Baffled.....

Just a thought..........try making sure that your desktop setting is at 16
bit. Might work.
