I did something bad last night. I downloaded the beta 0.2.0.0... I feel
bad as well. The reason for feeling bad is that I don't feel any remorse
whatsoever! I'd do it again!
If guilt should be placed, I'd say that this ng has put substantial
pressure on me, I keep hearing these times, details on tracks etc. I
tried to keep the thougts away, but I couldn't! In the end, I had no
resistance, and gave in for the dark force. This is the very first time
I did something like this...
I have preordered the game from england, should be dispatched today, so
this should be accounted for when my sentence is worked out...
Anyway, concerning graphics:
I have:
P250 MMX overclocked with 83 mhz system bus, PCI running at half system
speed. Stealth II overclocked to 58 mhz (from 40!), and SCSI
Ultrawide... 64 Mb RAM...
Anyway, I just had to try it: Race with all opponents(19), all graphics
on, even mirrors, 640x480 at Silverstone (not much graphics there, I
know), and out onto the grid, revving my engine, waiting for that green
flag. Frame rate? It was around 12 when standing on the grid. I thought
that was a bit low, but in fact it was quite controllable, I managed to
make the start and getting through the first corner (Copse), and as soon
as the field spread out, I had around 20. When the front runners moved
up, the frame rate was around 23-24, overtaking cars had little impact
on fps, several cars around slowed the game down a bit, but still quite
playable...
What's the fuzz about Papy writing games for high end computers? I have
by no means a top end 'puter, on the contrary, and the game is still
playable with all graphics and all opponents?
Is the final version much slower than the 0.2.0.0? I have to ask,
because I find at rather puzzleing that some persons claim Papys guilt
of writing games for super end computers...
I tried racing the pros (pro short), and Scarfiotti was the only one I
could regularly beat, but heck, that was my first time around
Silverstone in GPL...

PS: I tried Nrburgring as well, the only thing I got from that was a
general overview, I managed to remember the sections (you know, the
sections between the marks -> concrete surface, bridges, steep hills
etc), next thing is to remember every turn in every section. Grud, I can
only imagine racing these beasts on a track like this. The racers of
that day must have been truly mad, and in love with speed, to throw
themselves around a track like that!!!
