N4 AI pit behavior bugs?

by R Keatin » Wed, 01 Aug 2001 02:47:27

This strange (bug?) AI behavior happened a Las Vegas Speedway.

All cars where on the same lap and a yellow came out.  I was running last.
After a while I saw all the AI cars head for the pits entering out of turn
4.  I decided to follow them.  Just before crossing the solid yellow line my
spotter told me the pits were opened.  Prior to that I had no message about
them being opened.  After leaving the pits I was told I didn't enter the
pits safely, yet I was following right on the AI's bumper when I entered.

It appears that there are two problems here.
1. The AI either new the pits were open before I did or didn't care if they
were opened or closed, and
2. The AI enters the pits incorrectly (from turn 4) rather than from turn 3,
yet they receive no penalty (going to the end of the longest line).

Are these known problems?  Are other tracks affected?

Thanks,
Russell

Did you happen to drive through the grass getting to pit road? Maybe crowd
the inside too much driving down pit road? Just a guess, I ran a 50% offline
race there yesterday, and had no trouble entering pit road out of turn 4
under the caution.

Don,

Nope, no driving on the grass.  It was a very low keyed time.  I was in last
place and things weren't going to get any worse so I took my time and was
very careful.

I know at some tracks if you get all 4 tires over the middle line on the
inside while driving down pit road you will get this penalty as well.
Or, maybe the officials just thought since you were having such a bad race
they'd make it a little worse for ya!! :)
