Greetings,

I'm considering throwing down on an AMD K6-2 350 system as a piecemeal
upgrade to my p166. With 64mb of PC100 and a Voodoo1 card, what kind of fps
can I expect in GPL at 640x480? I have limited time for sims at the moment,
and probably wouldn't be upgrading at all at the moment, except that my
system is starting to crash from 3 years of overclocking. Hence, all I need
is tolerable fps until the summer, when I'll have more time, cash, and
probably a Voodoo3 and K6-3 500. Can anyone give me some insight into what
my results will be?

Any help will be appreciated,

Larf

I can get 36 FPS(training) with mirror textures off, and detail set just left
of center.  My system is the same, except I'm running a VoodooII.  Maybe you
could get about 30-31?

I took this route to a 'partail' upgrade with excellent results:

- Decent ball bearing fan/heatsink: $11 (doesn't even get lukewarm)
- 64mb PC100 SDRAM: $75 (w/8ns chips - some normal SDRAMs still work at
100mHz)
- Soyo EHM socket 7 mbrd w/1mb L2 cache: $108 (baby AT format = no new
case!).
- Diamond Stealth S220 4mb Rendition V2100 o/c'd 64mHz (std is 40 mHz): $35
(after rebate).

Excellent performance and stability. Runs 35/6 FPS at 800x600 all the time
with _all_ graphics options on in training. >30fps at 640 x 480 during
racing (after start) with 19 opponents.

Happy racing,

I don't know how it'll work with a Voodoo1, but I have a K6-2 300 with
dual-Voodoo2's, and I'm running at 1024x768 at 36fps in most places, never
goes below 20fps anywhere. 36fps is the limit of the game.

I am running a AMD K6 300 ( 4x75 ) with 32mb of generic SDRAM and a
Diamond Stealth II o/c'd to 62mhz.
With the GPL Demo, I get 36fps all the way around. Of course, this
will change when I get the full version and have all the cars around
me.....Just my $.02
