suggests I may be able to shift it up to an AMD K6-2 400.
How well does GPL run on K6-2 ? I would be teaming it with 512kB L2
cache, 66Mhz main bus speed, 48Mb RAM, and an 8Mb V2
Anybody got figures for K6-2 performance ?
Thanks
Andy

I have a K6-2 300 (o/c to 315) coupled to a Canopus Pure 3DII 12mb voodoo 2
and GPL runs fine, although not as fast as the Intel equivalent. Generally
in multiplayer races my framerate is always at least 20-30 fps, maxing out
at GPL's limit of 36/37 when not much is going on.
Starts from the back of the grid with 19 computer cars are a bit of a joke
(5-15fps!), but for multiplayer (where CPU is not loaded down with AI) it is
fine. If you're going for a 400, multiplayer definitely shouldn't be a
problem, and even if it is, it will only be for the starts in big fields. If
you're a single player fanatic though (god knows why?!), Intel chips still
rule the GPL roost.
Hope this helps.

This HAS to be wrong, Greg -- I don't have the full version of GPL
(yeah, I'm a heretic -- everybody flame me now), but the demo version
ran fine on my K6-266 with 32MB of RAM and a Canopus Pure 3D (Voodoo
1) video card.
Can anybody confirm how the full release version of GPL runs on a K6
system???

AMD K6-400 Mhz, 64 MB, 256 kB cache, 16 MB PowerGrafx Voodoo Banshee,
GPL runs at solid 36 fps when running full details offline without AI,
and also at 36 fps when online with 10+ cars and some details off.
Quite adequate for online racing for example.
Oh yeah, I'm using 600x480 resolution but it's about the same at
800x600.

You are wrong. There is no conflict between an AMD processor and GPL.
I am not sure where you heard this, but it must have been from a
pro-Intel user. I have played GPL numerous times with my K6-2 400 and
Monster 3d and have had no problems. Of course we AMD users would
appreciate more 3dnow support, but its growing slowly.

The guy who replied also said that if someone with a low framerate joins
your game, you notice the slowdown. This may be true online, but for LAN
games, there is no noticeable difference (unless they have permanent 2fps!)

I have a AMD K6-2/350 and gpl runs just fine. As a matter of fact,I'm
planning on upgrading for the last time(at least for this year) to a K6-3.
