Has anyone tried GPL with a AMD K6 300?

The title says it all, I try to find ways to use my old 'puter for
another six months... And being able to run GPL with a few opponents...

I do have a Rendition Stealth II, and a P 250Mhz (overclocked on 83 Mhz
bus...), wonder if the AMD will make any difference...

We're awaiting the GPL release here in Europe, words can't express our
envy of you americans!!! We just have to dig out those drool buckets
reading  posts from you lucky ones...

I just upgraded to an AMD K-2 333 with a 100 bus motherboard and 128meg of
SDRAM. I also have a 12 meg Diamond Voodoo2. GPL runs like a dream in
1024x768, but this is only the demo, I await the full game on Friday. I
will see what AI does to it!!

Yes I have a AMD K-6 2 3D Now/300
And GPL runs great with it, :o)

512 kb cache

64 megs sdram

800*600 (actually not any better fps at 640*480)
19 opponents

detail almost all the way off (left)
crowds off (haven't tried it on yet)
driver's arms off (too distracting for me anyway)
everything else on

32-34 fps w/ 3-4 cars near
36fps solid (I have seen it jump to 37. xx at times as others have posted)
when alone

Only gets noticeably slower when there's a wreck (mostly me ;) ) and there
are alot of cars around ( I guess the ai gets pretty busy trying to avoid
me), as low as 8-12 fps if it happens in the first Lesmo on the first lap w/
all the cars right there( I am able to pass quite a few before it happens,
oh well.

Frankly, I doubt that a K6 300 will show a lot of improvement over an
Intel P250. I guess you won't replace the mainboard, so you will still
be limited to 83MHz bus (and L2 cache) speed. The 50 extra MHz will
probably be eaten up by the K6's slightly inferior FPU performance.
At best, a K6 300 will do approx. 350MHz, so there's not a lot of
overclockability in that one either. But since I have neither the chip
nor the sim, this is pure (though informed) speculation. :)
