performance is. Thanks.
Andrew.
Andrew.
I have:
K6-2/400
Tyan Trinity MB
128 MB SDRAM-100
Elsa Erazor II
Noname V2 (for GPL only ;))
I get:
21-23 fps in Monza w/ 19 AI's starting
36 fps after Curva Grande
fps-hits only if a big pile-up happens in front of me ;))
I should say, this cpu works fine w/ GPL. Maybe a K6-3 works even
better, 'cause it has 2nd-level-cache on-chip. I'll test that after
X-mas ;))

BUT...
I have changed my video card from a i740 to a guillemot cougar video
edition....it rocks
800*600, full details everywhere, 36 fps alone all the time (not the case
before)
In the race, at the start down to 21-22 and then about 31-32 depending on
the number of cars close to me.
I kept my 3dfx2 12Mo
Conclusion : video card is SO much more important than CPU here (not the
case for GP2 for instance) and, at all costs, KEEP your old 3dfx or buy one
used for a ridiculous price, even with my video with 32 Mo ram and a f....g
fast chip the 3dfx is compulsory for GPL....and i don't trust direct x
enough to go to direct x video drivers....like it the HARD way
Andrew,
I was using a AMD K6-2/350 with a Voodoo2 and with most graphics and a
resolution of 640x480 I was able to get 36 fps except at the starts with a
full field. Now I run a K6-2/450 and a Voodoo3 3000 AGP. I run both on and
off line at 1024/768 with all graphics on except track and cars only in the
mirrors, and get a rock solid 36 fps except at the starts.

It's always enough for string with 20 cars.
Buy the game, buy a Voodoo-card. Have fun.

Thanks again, Andrew.

I've currently got a K6-2 300 running at 112*3, and a voodoo 2. I'm seriously
considering getting a K6-2 450 as they are so cheap now. Would you say this
would be a good move (I'll keep the Voodoo 2)? How much do you think your
voodoo 3 helps your system over the V2? Or would a K6-3 400 be a better bet,
even though its 50+% more expensive?
Thanks,
Neil

I've since upgraded, and don't take the time to play GPL anymore....

It' a pity, but on my experiences you can forget running GPL without
3Dfx. In my PC works a K6-2/400 with a voodoo2. It' ok.
