I was wondering what are the best EAX effects to use with GPL... I used to
use the "3D preset - Racing", but that went with the arrival of Live Ware
3.0.
GPL sounds a bit flat and dull (to me) without any SBLive effects, even with
new car sounds.

Also, do I need Win98 to use USB? And if I do, is it worth it - just to use
things like mice and controllers with the USB ports. I'm happy using Win95
right now, and the only thing that matters on my system is the performance
of GPL (and GP3 eventually of course).

Win98 SE will allow USB devices and an internet sharing setup so you
can network two or more computers at home and share the same Internet
connection.
If you don't have any USB devices yet, if you don't have a home
network, and if you don't have cable or ADSL access for the internet,
then stay with what you have. GP3 will probably require DX7 but that
should be the only upgrade you'll need for the OS. How much oompf your
hardware has is another story.

I liked the 3d preset - racing very much, but indeed it has gone.Can
someone who still has Liveware 2.0 tell me what the settings for 3d
preset - racing are, so I can make it myself in Liveware 3.0?

Create your own. Different speakers will really affect the sound you hear so I
can't say one setting is best. For me, I added some reverb (10%) and some
flanger (2%).
