Yeah, doing that in F1 2001 is pretty cool, but not realistic, but
then most of the game is that way to.

Saw a post by you later in the group so I suppose it answered my own
question.

Wonder how F1 is on the X-Box?

Anybody had any experience?

Go here:

for a review of F1 2001 on the XBox. Says it's just like the PS2 version
EXCEPT it can't use a steering wheel for control, which in my book is a
fatal flaw.

I don't think you can bump-start a F1 car because of all the
electronics involved and the high compression ratio.

Most of the game is NOT realistic?  I could not disagree more.  Feels pretty
realistic to me.
So I can better understand your perspective: other than GPL, what game to
you think is realistic?  I'm excluding GPL since there is a consensus
regarding realism.

Real compared to what - driven a 2001 F1 car have you.

i.m.o It's a very un-real experience to that of a racing car. It's sloppy,
slidey and unconvincing in every respect.

I thought the slidey was pretty good.  The drivers always complain about
lack of tire grip.  You have to keep up the speed in order to use
benefits of downforce.  Maybe the springy suspension could be fixed in
F1-2002, but that's a small thing.

If anyone is going to complain about F1-2001 please complain about the
internet play!  Although it has improved from SCGT with the online
practice sessions, the actual number of players you can get driving is
still poor.

Sure you're using decent setups?  The default ones are crap.  The whole
experience is transformed by good setups.

Perhaps we can word it differently, compared to other sims currently on
the market that focus on F1.  F12001 is the best of the lot, as close to
real as we have gotten so far....
Clearly given hardware limitations etc we will be a long time before we
get a "real" sim...but at the moment....at this point in time...it seems F1
2001 is the clear choice for F1 simming.

It doesn't say it can't use a wheel, it says it has no support for
external controllers, which led them to assume it can't use a wheel.
Since there aren't any Xbox wheels available quite yet, I'm not sure how
they can claim that.  I would think any Xbox wheel would have to send
the same channels and control ranges as the gamepad in order to work at
all, in which case I don't know how any game would even know the
difference.  Anyway I am crossing my fingers and hoping so, because I
already have F1 2001 for the Xbox.  ;o)

OT:  FWIW I like the PC version better.  That guy who came around here a
few months ago flaming the PC version was just full of it, the only
thing better in the Xbox/PS2 version is the pit babes.
