F1 2001: It is soooo good...

As much as I love it, F12001 isn't a clear winner over F1RC by a long shot.
There are aspects to the physics model (or the settings plugged into it)
which definitely seem off. Maybe I'll start a new thread which addresses
them. I'm actually shocked that some of these things haven't been discussed
yet given the reputation r.a.s. has given itself.

Yea.  RAS has given itself the reputation of kicking
ass.

I think people are just happy to have a decent sim,
and the little things aren't getting too much
attention yet...

It's a little unclear why F1 2001 has had such a
good reception.  There are things that GP3 clearly
does better.  I was personally never that thrilled
with driving GP3, though.  I think the driving
experience/feel in F1 2001 is a lot better, and
that's carrying the day so far.

F1 2001: It is soooo good...

Yeah Doug, just after banging Schumi's wife, I stole his Ferrari and took it
for a spin. ;0)  Frankly it doesn't matter if I've driven an F1 car or not.
Unless you have are opinions are equally valid (or invalid). ;0)

I've driven go carts and sports cars and have seen enough in-car cameras to
have a fair enough idea of what the car MAY feel like.  It's possible that
it's completely unrealistic and I'm wrong, I just doubt it. ;0)

No need for a pissing contest since realistic is both objective and
subjective.  The objective is using a real world model to simulate 6 dof
physics.  If the car is launched 30 feet in the air after rolling over a
small hill, it is objectively inaccurate.  The subject part is one's
perception of the F1 experience.

I have certain expectations based on extrapolating other driving experiences
and viewing in-car cams and other video.  My perception of driving a go kart
was fairly accurate prior to actually driving one.  I'll take my chances
that my F1 perception is fairly good as well.

Bottom line for F1 2001: it drives the way I expect an F1 car to drive.
It's the best feeling F1 sim on the market.  It works for me.  Your mileage
may vary. ;0)

: It doesn't say it can't use a wheel, it says it has no support for
: external controllers, which led them to assume it can't use a wheel.

: Since there aren't any Xbox wheels available quite yet,

Back up the truck.   There appears to be several X-BOX wheels available.

Yes, I'm aware of those and others, but I don't think any of them are
actually available in stores yet.  I have been keeping my eyes on the
stores in my area, and none of them are available locally yet.  I
suppose the reviewer could have had access to a wheel directly from a
manufacturer, but he doesn't say that, in fact he doesn't mention even
trying it with any wheel, he just says it won't work.  He might be
right, but he has no proof, and frankly I can't see any reason why it
wouldn't work.

I kinda agree with Pat and DGF here.  F1 2001 leaves me dry.  I'm thinking
of uninstalling it, I just don't see myself putting the effort with it.  Gp3
gives me a more satisfying experience of driving a car.  F1RC gives me..
errr.. well.. good looking tracks.
