Well, I have a little under 1 full season of "street-stock" racing
experience at Wall Stadium (Ray Evernham's home track) which is a 1/3 mile
paved high banked oval.......street stocks are basically mid to full sized
cars, small block V8's with minor engine mods, on street tires, with full
rollcages and other safety gear. Absolutely one of the most fun things I've
ever experienced, even including all the hard work.....my partner and I
built the whole car, and repaired it often.....but starting a race with 30
other cars, 60 open exhaust pipes, 120 screeeeeeming tires, and going just
as fast as you can stand, is quite a good time. After my kids are grown and
I'm able to afford it, I'd love to get back on the track, and raise hell
with the young guys.
In my opinion, GPL, n4, and now nascar 2002 get the feeling of a car down,
with 2002 being the best. The view thru the windshield seems just a tad
crowded to me, but the movement of the view relative to throttle, brake and
steering inputs seems spot on, and the tire sounds of scrubbing leading into
squealing seem about right as well. 2002 has the ability to somehow let you
"feel" the weight of a stock car too, these things are high powered tanks,
they roll more than lighter cars do, and rise/fall on their springs more
too......great stuff Papy.
