Any suggestions? Will be running Nascar 2003 and GPL mostly.

The machine these components will be going into is HP D530CMT.
P4 2.8 GHz cpu
512 MB Ram
60 GB HDD
Currently has on board video and sound but will be disabling them obviously.

Thank you,
Mike

The ATI Radeon 9800 Pro's are a good deal nowadays (~$200).
Although knowing what I know now, I might've shelled out a little more
for 256mb instead of 128mb (Far Cry used all of my 128mb).

I also have a Creative Audigy 2 ZS sound card that I'm pleased with
but I can't say it's much better than most onboard sound.

Off topic, but still speaking of sound...
I was recently surprised by F1 Challenge 99-02. I had always used
speakers but didn't want to disturb my wife. I put headphones on and
could hear the wind blowing by me as I drove. Now, THAT's attention to
detail.

You need to get the fastest video card that your budget supports ATI and
Nvidia are pretty close at the top. For the price conscious the 9800 is a
steal at the moment.

Any Audigy will give you EAX and the Audigy 2 will give you THQ (don't think
original Audugy has THQ but I could be wrong) both add presence to the
sound. On board sounds are incredible but don't support EAX etc.

Driving CMR04 through a tunnel with and without EAX will show you what
you'll miss/get with an Audigy but you have to have one to try it.
