Just a basic question:
In terms of frame rate improvement in gpl, what did you experienced
replacing your old sound card with SBLIVE. Please give  info about your
hardware and some points of comparison before and after in terms of REAL
fps improvement . Does it improve FPS (everything being the same except
the sound card) or can you just increase the number of sounds with the
same FPS?

I have currently a maxi Dynamic 3d (guillemot) and i 'm wondering if
going to a SB live would really improve frame rate (especially at
starts).

My config is celeron 300 oc to 463, voodoo 3 2000 oc to 192 mhz and maxi
dynamic 3d sound card

thanks for your time!!!

It's been quite a while since the upgrade, but if my memory serves me well,
I saw a 6-8 fps increase while staying at the same number of sounds(4) or a
3-4 fps increase if the number of sounds were maxed out. This was an upgrade
from an Ensonic pci card on a PII400. Although the increase in fps is a
plus, it's the quality of the audio that impressed me.

One item of note, some people have had problems with the Creative Launcher
crashing GPL. The Launcher is included in the software from Creative Labs.
You can choose not to install it or just turn it off in the SBL controls.

I have a 350 PII.  Voodoo3-3000.  PDPI game card.  I got about 2fps on
the grid when I upgraded to sb live value from onboard crystal sound.
The pdpi was also worth about 2fps but I didnt compare it to the sb
live game port.

No FPS improvement here. GPL runs well on my system but I did not get ANY
fps improvement from SB live.

I replaced a Creative Awe64 with an SBLive! (Value) and noticed...
1) my steering wheel in the***pit view is much less twitchy.
2) the frame rate definitely improved. Not a lot, but enough that I
noticed.

thanks for the infos. It seems the results is dependent of the system? I'll
try to borrow a SB LIVE and test it...
