GPL FPS and Sound

I don't know if this will help anyone or not.

I have a:

P2-333
96MB
Monster 3D II
Diamond M80 PCI sound card.

When I first installed GPL I would usually get 25 or so FPS with other cars
in the pit, but it would go to 30-36 FPS as I got on the track. The sound
seemed pretty good. I read about some who have sound problems and a few who
had very poor frame rates. Neither was the case with me.

However, things have changed. A friend sent me a few replays to view. As I
viewed them I noticed I was getting the sound of the engine when before I
never had any sound during a replay. I thought that was the way it was
supposed to be. <g> I also noticed that the replay seemed slower than what
I had seen before. I rebooted the computer and tried some of the replays
that come with the game. I now was getting sound in them. The sound became
distorted and dropped in and out though.

I decided then to try and see what would happen in a race. With 10 cars and
me at the rear (where I belong), I was getting sound distortion. I was
surprised to get only 5 FPS as I sat there, and when the other cars left I
got up to only 8 FPS. I tried Silverstone with 10 cars and me at the rear
and got 4 FPS at the start.

I'm either going to reinstall or try my old SB 16 and see if that helps.

The odd thing is that I never saw the sound problem or bad frame rates when
I was first playing the sim. I have no idea why this happened later on.

    DR,

    Mine:

P200MMX
64M
Monster 1
AWE64

I get around the same on framerates; on the track I'm running around
30-35fps but I have the sound voices in the setup set to the minimums also.
Setting it to four to 6 and not really any noticeable drop. Anything higher and
you start dumping frames really quick. I've found that running with the minimum
settings here gives the best results for me...but I also have a slower machine
too.

Never had the same problem. Sound is always there for me...so I don't know
where to start...

Check the options settings and make sure you reduce the number of sounds in the
game and I think you'll see an improvement. If that doesn't work...then the
problem is beyond me.
