Is it true that a PCI sound card will give you better FPS in GPL than an ISA
, and why?

I dont see why a sound card could affect video !?!

Thanks

When I swithced from an isa sb awe 64 to a pci sb live value it definitely gave
a small increase in frame rate, 3-4 fps as I recall. I forget the tech reason
but it's true. The other effect is now I run four speakers and a subwoofer and
it sounds great!

That makes sense.  Thanks for the info.

Most of the sound generated in games is reatime wave information. This takes
quite a bit of bandwidth. If the CPU has to spend time feeding the wave
information to the soundcard then it has less time to do the calculations for
the graphics and physics. A PCI card reduces the amount of time the CPU has too
look after the sound and hence more time can be spent calculating the graphics
and physics and hence a better frame rate.

Other things affect frame rate too ike a FF steering wheel and if your card is
using A3D or EAX for the sound.

No!
Its all bullshit, makes no difference at all.
I changed from SB 32 Pnp to SB PCI64.
No difference.
In fact at first the sound was really shit, until I installed a patch to
make all GPL sounds 22Mhz.

Odd Karl? I never had any problems with the SB PCI64 in Gpl &
matter of fact I ran 6 speakers in surround & it was great! Its even
better in Sb Live now! Are you sure you have good speakers?

I changed from (isa)Creative64 value to (pci)SBLive value and saw...

1) appreciable uplift in GPL frame rate. I posted something at the time... deja's
memory's probably better than mine. Wasn't huge but it was noticeable.

2) much more stable gameport... very little jitter now, but I had bad shakes before.

Sounds like you were either lucky before with your sb32, or unlucky with your pci64.
