TSW2 and F1 2001

by Mark Borde » Sun, 14 Oct 2001 20:05:23

Anyone get this wheel up and runnin with F1 2001. The game seems to
recognize it in the menu, but when I try to assign  a function,it does it
quickly, before i can press anything on the wheel. Then, when I check back in
the menu,it says custum for the controller. Also, the split axis doesn't
appear to be working. It works fine with N4 and GPL. System is AMD 1.0
Ghz,256 mbs,GTS2,SBL.
Thanks in advance

Mark..this game is a cluster f***. I have a TSW also. First couldn't get the
game to stop locking up. then got it running but I'm at the same point as
you now. First run car went around the track fine. Now I can't get out of
the pits and the same thing is happening in my option screen. If you find
the problem please let me know.

Try holding dowh the pedals from when you start the game until you reach the
config screen.  EA game always seem to have a problem with my TSW2 - don't know
why.  I have F12k, F12CS, and Superbike 2001 - they ALL are a pain to
configure.

Well,I can get it working in combined mode, but no luck in split.Tried your
idea EldredP,no luck. Do you actually get it configured in split? I'm
plugged into the gameport,by the way. Thanks

Why should we have to run it in single axis.Almost every
wheel out there today is capable of split axis and every racing game should
be. I know it's working with some wheels and why it does not with TSW2 is
beyond me.
Maybe its because we have cheap wheels; naw that couldn't be it. Maybe its
because EA is not willing to go that extra mile to fix there games.I dont
won't to hear maybe the patch will fix it, because they have had years to
fix this problem, it has been in almost every racing game
they have made. Maybe its intentional to help microsoft sell more of there
50 dollar pieces of plastic. Who nows?
All I know is shutting down my machine just to switch my
wheel to single axis is a extra step I should not have to
make.

I don't have F1 2001 yet.  But, that's what I've had to do for every other EA
racing game I have.  As someone else said, EA's controller routines are a
cluster(bleep).  I guess we didn't complain enough on the previous titles, so
they kept DOING it... :(

oh bye the way in dx tweaker just change the first box in r axis thats

Got a lengthy email from Dave Jr. the other night (yes, Dave Jr. of
Thomas Enterprises), he says that for now the TSW will only work
in combined axis mode because of a combination of crummy programming
on both Microsoft's (to be expected) and EA's part.

If your TSW/TSW2 displays the jumping crosshair in the steering wheel
box during windows calibration, you're SOL I guess.

I don't know if he would approve of posting his email here in a public
newsgroup, so I'll refrain from doing so.

cheers,

What does he say about it working with F12CS?  I had to jump through a few
hoops, but it works...
Just trying to decide if it's worth BUYING F12001.  If the controller routines
are the same, maybe the same tricks will work on it as well.
