GP2 problem..

by ExMrBlond » Fri, 21 Jul 2000 04:00:00

Hi there all you knowledgable ppl...

I have just tried installing my old GP2 on my new 'puter bought for GP3,
however, IT WON'T WORK !!!  I have a P3 600 and I have heard whispers that
GP2 doesn't like the VIA chipset on the motherboard (which is what I have).
Has anyone ever experienced this, and if so, HOW DO I FIX IT ???

regards,

Ex

Well I like F1 2000 and GP3 is allegedly going to be out
in a week or so. IMHO it is not even worth trying to get GP2
to run as it is an old ancient DOS game.

Noted. Just go ahead and killfile me. Make my day :-)

Sure I can get the game going in DOS. But how did you hear that
GP2 would not work with VIA chipsets?

How about getting off your lazy ass and helping yourself?

I have taken the small trouble of investigating the matter a little myself
as it shows you up brilliantly.

I did a search for "VIA Chipset" on about.com... the first link was the VIA
Technologies site. Once the site loaded I clicked on "Drivers" and was
transported to this page:

http://www.viatech.com/drivers/index.htm

Look under "DOS/OS2 Users". -doh!

Oh well has it occurred to you that the whispers in the chatroom
may have thought they were experts. Maybe my cavalier attitude
is partially because I simply do not believe their assertions. Further
I think Jan Verschueren has given you marvelous advice :-)

I do agree with him try it yourself. This is always preferable to
what some "expert" says. At least that has been my experience.
But wait, since you didn't care about my opinion I am sure you
could care less about my experience.

No problem at all on my FIC 2013 board with VIA chipset. Runs great in fact.
What won't work; does the game not start at all, does it start and freeze at
the DOS bit, what OS are you running etc etc. If you are running Windows
2000, then you might well have big probs.
Lets try to narrow it down a bit. Have you also tried posting at
http://www.alphaf1.com/forum/index.html ?
Cheers

Thanks for your opinion, but I REALLY would like to solve this problem, not
waste my time with your shitty posts.

So can you help me or what ???

Just a whisper on a chat room I visited..  They weren't sure, although
someone said that he'd heard of 5 other people that this had happened to, so
I thought I'd ask the 'experts'.

>How about getting off your lazy ass and helping yourself?

Thanks for that Jan, however, I should let you know that I have already
installed all the updated drivers previously, and it STILL won't work.  I
may not be the smartest guy on the block, but I'm certainly not the laziest.
I've tried all the usual stuff to try and rectify the problem, and my last
resort was to post a question to this newsgroup, hell, the Microprose
customer support centre didn't even help me out.
Maybe I should stick to posting about how 'good' I am at GPL, and how my
steering wheel is bigger than yours (which seems to be the norm around here)
rather than asking a serious question, but thanks anyway...

Gee, what I would do without you.. Thanks for what I regard as an
'enlightening' post..

Well, you asked a question, he gave you his honest opinion, and you're pissed.
Oh well...

Thanks John,

I'm using Win98 and the problem I have is that I can navigate through the
menus in the game, however, when I start a race, be it a championship or
quickrace, the game freezes up.  This happens when I run it through either
DOS or Win.

Ok, I confused lack of information with lack of initiative... I apologise.
